This small book about Psalm 23 can easily be read in one sitting...or used as devotional material and studied more thoroughly. I especially appreciated the many cross-references and the emphasis on understanding the heart of the Good Shepherd--Jesus Christ. It is an encouraging book that challenges you to value Christ's presence above all else...and to understand what His presence means in your life.

This small book was read in less than an hour but taught as a Thursday night Bible study in 6 weeks. Excellent lesson and expansion on each verse. The comparison of the shepherd and the sheep to our Shepherd and "sheep" helped us to realize the provision, protection, and promises of our Lord.

I also used this book on my Kindle as a reference and use when making hospital and home visits easily. The only one negative statement I would account for is the repition of the item on promises. Even though the lessons on Promises were good, some of it was repition. Other than that, excellent short book to read in one sitting.

Having worked with sheep in the past, I found this study of the 23rd Psalm to be most enjoyable as well as informative.

This book was well researched and simply written. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the first Scripture passage I ever memorized. I would recommend this book to anyone.

This book is very encouraging...many of the truths I already knew...but his stories made the truths easier to apply to your heart understanding. I think it's a great book to read for any Christian, but particularly encouraging to hurting Christians. So thankful for God's many promises I was reminded of in this book.

There are only two kinds of sheep - saved or lost.

Verse 1) Did you know that Psalm 23 is in the middle of the three psalms showing the shepherding qualities of God? A shepherd guards and protects: Psalm 22 - Good Shepherd * Psalm 23 - Great Shepherd * Psalm 24 - Guiding Shepherd.

Jesus delights to be our shepherd. Religion cannot fill that role! The author writes "The product of knowing the Lord personally as your Shepherd is contentment- the realization that God alone is enough." We shall not want. We live in a material world. How much of what we see is essential?

Verse 2) The shepherd removes fear, resolves friction, remembers food and repels flies. (Liken that to sin in us humans!) We are very much like sheep and we need the shepherd to help us with the above four problems. Only the shepherd can lead us to green pastures, otherwise we are living in barren land. Still water - sheep will only drink form peaceful water. The author also talks about the whelk which burrows into any oyster's shell, gradually devouring it. A lack of peace can do the same thing to us!

Verse 3) Soul Restoration
Cast down - fallen over. Three things cause sheep to fall. What are they? Read to find out but they relate to us too! "God's plan for our lives involves a journey." Path of righteousness - don't miss out on His blessings!

Verse 4) Shielding relationship.
Sheep are naturally fearful. "You can't climb a mountain without going through a valley first." Valleys provide water and wisdom. Our provision and sufficiency comes from God. In a crisis we need Christ. Do not go through the valley alone.
The staff is for defense, discipline and discovery.

Verse 5) Preparation
We have an enemy.

What a simple but powerful teaching about Psalm 23! My perspective is forever changed and enriched by this amazing study!
It has truly helped me understand my Shepherd's heart more deeply & intimately and has caused me to draw closer to Jesus daily!
I have purchased a copy to be shipped to my sister in Pennsylvania. I will be purchasing a copy for my son & daughter-in-law also.
This is definitely a wonderful reference book for my library.
