5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent and Quirky Bit of Storytelling, April 7, 2008
By Greg Crites "Melee" (Lakeland, Fl USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Heart of Desire (Kindle Edition)
It's rare to find a new take, a new spin, a new style. This has all three. I racked my brain for some previous book to compare this too, for style, and execution. I came up empty. It has everything; a perfect balance of weirdness, description, and characterization. This is good storytelling and the reason I enjoy reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be careful what you wish for, April 4, 2010
This review is from: The Heart of Desire (Paperback)
Length:: 2:10 Mins

He was just a naive young college kid who joined the army to see war like his hero, Ernest Hemingway. He didn't have a clue, and he didn't take anything seriously. Not love, not the war...and he even made fun of things maybe he shouldn't have. And then, one drunken night in an old French whorehouse, he met a strange old lady...and actually managed to trade away his ordinary life for a more exciting one. He thought it was a game, and, in a way, it was...That was the night he got his scar, and he's been running ever since...Over time, he's grown quick and wary, like a lean badlands wolf. Not a bad guy, but he can never rest. You see, The Heart of Desire is a game of chance. The demi-gods invented it to amuse themselves. The Heart of Desire is also the cult classic road adventure novel from double Dragon Publishing. Now available as a downloadable e-book in all the popular formats, including Kindle. And as a trade paperback. An audio book. And soon to be a major motion picture. Meanwhile, you might think twice before you laugh at danger...or scoff at romance...or make light of god-like creatures who bet on petty games of little consequence...

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Audiobook, October 20, 2008
This review is from: The Heart of Desire (Paperback)
Warning the author did the audiobook on this one. While his voice is ok, there is lots of music at the end and beginning of each chapter. I could get past chapter 3 since I could not understand the book due to the audio production with the creepy music covering up much of the voice...for what seamed like pages of the story. Horrible production.

The author also tells you at the beginning of each chapter (I only made it through three) that HE IS THE AUTHOR READING THE BOOK! Was this a bit to much ego?

Might have been an interesting book, but the author would have done well to hire a professional narrator or audio book production studio that knows how to produce an quality audio book product. My time would have been much better spent listening to something else.
