Will Sloane Carlisle Become the Next Chandler Bride?,
This review is from: The Heartbreaker (Hardcover)
Brought up as a senator's daughter, Sloane Carlisle was living a fairytale life. Close to her mothers, father and twin sisters, her busy life in Washington D.C. left her little time to contemplate what she might be missing.Until one day she overhears a horrible secret: the man she thought was her father, Michael Carlisle, really isn't. And to make things worse, Michael's right-hand man wants Sloane's real father out of the picture. Desperate to warn her biological father of the threat, Sloane finds herself in out-of-the way Yorkshire Falls. Immediately welcomed into the small-town atmosphere, she is jolted when she runs into a man she had a one-night stand with, Chase Chandler. Seeing Chase brings back all of her feelings in a rush, especially when he offers to help her. But will he live up to his nickname of 'the heartbreaker' or will he make all her dreams come true? And will she be able to find her father in time to save him? The Heartbreaker is a comical, light-hearted romance about a couple that clearly should be together even though they fight it. With a hint of mystery thrown in to make the courtship even more difficult, it makes the reader root for the couple even more. From an on-again, off-again affair, to a meddling mother, to a choice between career and family, The Heartbreaker keeps the pages turning until the happily-ever-after ending.

The Heartbreaker by Carly Phillips was absolutely fabulous, and my heart was broken when I realized I finished my last book about the gorgeous Chandler brothers. :( We learned in The Bachelor that Raina Chandler was determined to see her three sons happily married, and she was willing to do whatever it takes to make them take the leap and start providing her with grandchildren. She decided the best way to accomplish her goals was to pretend to have a serious heart problem. Whether it was her planning or fate that brought the couples together, well never know.
When Rainas husband died, Chase Chandler became the man of the house, so he gave up all of his dreams to make sure his younger brothers could follow their hearts. Now that his mother and brothers are happy, he decides that it is finally his turn. Shortly after making this decision, he meets Sloan and is smitten by her. Since Sloane was on a mission to find out the truth about her father, the last thing she wanted was to fall in love. The path to happiness isnt always where we think it should be. Chase certainly didnt want to give up his freedom and Sloane didn't want a man running away from the thoughts of a family......... but did I mention the smitten part?
This is my favorite book in the Chandler series. It wasnt as funny as the first two books, but it was a lot more suspenseful. Carly Phillips was able to blend humor, suspense, romance and enough steam to fog up the windows.

What a disappontment...,

I was so looking forward to Chase's story after brothers Roman (The Bachelor) and Rick (The Playboy) were happily married off.. The basic premise of the trilogy is that mother Raina fakes a heart condition to force her 3 handsome sons to marry and beget children. Heartbreaker starts out with black-haired, blue-eyed Chase bedding a gorgeous redhead he met in a bar. This is out of character for both the steadfast, small-town reporter and for Sloan Carlisle, daughter of a political Senator. She was confused and depressed that night, after learning a tragic secret and so turned to Chase for a one-night stand. So, I thought, this is going to be one of those fall into lust first, fall into love later stories. OK. Then by coincidence, don't hero and heroine meet up together in his small hometown, as he's been appointed her "Protector" by Sloane's mother. I knew this was coming but it seemed contrived which is why I just couldn't cozy up to Chase and Sloane as characters or as a couple. Chase had a lot of good, Romance Hero qualities: he was handsome, loyal, ethical and shy. But Sloane was very two-dimensional. She jumped into bed with the hero one hour after meeting him - I find that more of a turn-off than a turn-on. There's a Biker Bar scene that didn't come off as sexy either, just weird. Sloane's emotions flit from spacey to "come-hither" to sobbing within a matter of minutes. She did not have a consistent personality, nor did the author let it develop. She ran hot/cold and saw things as black and white and that's probably why I didn't care for her. I usually love to "visit" with characters from previous books but here I found the Rick/Kendall, Roman/Charlotte, Raina/Eric stories just got in the way of an already slow-moving romance between the main protagonists. So - go ahead and read Heartbreaker just so you can cap off the Chandler brothers story. But I was diappointed by the rushed, irrelevant plot and flat characters (Sloane). Try harder next time, Carly Phillips - you've got talent. Slow down, take your time and give us a humorous, heartwarming story that your many fans know you're capable of.

The Heartbreaker,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Heartbreaker (Hardcover)
Instead of being a typical teenager, Chase Chandler spent his latter teens helping his mom raise his two younger brothers. Now that they have both settled down, Chase is finally ready to spread his wings and leave Yorkshire Falls, New York behind, if only for a little while. In Washington, D.C., Chase visits his brother, Roman, and hopes to gain rights to an exclusive one on one interview with Madeline Carlisle, wife of Senator Michael Carlisle, to bolster his career. But before business must come pleasure, and Chase finds that pleasure in the arms of a gorgeous redhead who is gone by daybreak. After meeting Madeline Carlisle, Chase finds himself with a curious offer. He can have his exclusive interview, if he returns to Yorkshire Falls to watch after the senator's oldest daughter, Sloane Carlisle. Sloane overheard a private conversation and may now be in serious hot water. It isn't until he sees her picture that Chase realizes his one-night stand is the woman he is about to go protect. There is one distraction that stands between them; a one-night stand just isn't enough. Chase discovers just how hard keeping your mind on the job can be. Not only is THE HEARTBREAKER the final Chandler brothers' path to romance, but it also marks Carly Phillips debut hardcover. Each brother and his wife (Roman & Charlotte from THE BACHELOR and Rick & Kendall from THE PLAYBOY) make a significant return appearance in this book. Readers who have anxiously awaited the birth of Roman and Charlotte's baby will finally find that closure within THE HEARTBREAKER. While the story had passion and plenty of romantic tension, at times I felt the resolution to Sloane's predicament took precedence. It took me longer to warm up to Chase and Sloane's romance than it has in the previous stories. There is also the continuing romance between Raina (Chase, Rick and Roman's mom) and her steady beau, Eric. Though a twist in her story there may leave readers with jaws agape. All in all, THE HEARTBREAKER is thoroughly enjoyable. However, this reviewer has hesitations over if I would be willing to pay the hardcover price. I think that is a matter that is best left for you, the reader, to decide. Tracy Farnsworth - Review as seen at former site TRRC

This is a fun, light and intriguing story.
A young woman, daughter of a future Presidential candidate, overhears a conversation that involves her background and her birth. She is fraught with emotion and takes off to discover what the facts are. She becomes involved with a young man who has decided that it is time for him to live his own life and to stop being a "caretaker" for others. As it turns out, the young man is also an independent journalist who has taken on the job of keeping an eye on someone as a personal favor.......he has no idea that it is the young woman he has just met at a bar the week before. What follows is an unexpected dangerous search, leading to near tragedy and throwing these two people into a whirlwind of danger and deception.......and pushing them closer and closer to each other.

A MUST HAVE,

This book is a definate must have if you have already read The Bachelor and The Playboy by Carly Phillips. This is the third book in the series and although it is predictable with what has happended to the Chandler Boys, it still has some twists and turns. I didnt think the book was supposed to come out until November, so I was very excited to find out that it was already out. I read it in one night. I couldnt put the book down, I had no choice..lol. I love books by Elizabeth Lowell, and have read almost all of hers when my aunt introduced me to Carly Phillips. Her books are simple but keep you reading! Im only sad that the story of the Chandler Brothers had to come to an end! All three of her books about the Chandler Brothers and their little home town of Yorkshire Falls is a A+!!!

HARDBACK??? How sneaky!!,
By Shondell Shearer (Tracy, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Heartbreaker (Hardcover)
I just came online to see when the latest book of the trilogy would be out. I was shocked to see this latest installment was released in hardback when the previous two were paperback. How sneaky of the publisher to suck is into the series just to get more bucks out of us on the third and final book by making us spend 10 bucks more on hardback. I almost want to not buy it since I'm so annoyed by this. I do want to see how it ends though. *SIGH* Okay, I feel better now.

Third Times a Charm!,

This review is from: The Heartbreaker (Paperback)
In less then a month I devoured all of the Chandler Brother books and what fun it was! These books aren't meant to stir deep thoughts or cause some major emotional melt down. They are fun and easy to read, the characters are personable and the mother is a trip! In any event, if you are looking for a good book say to read at the beach or by the fire, these are it!

The Heartbreaker,
This review is from: The Heartbreaker (The Chandler Brothers, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
I really like Carly Phillips as a writer. She has nice flow from one book to another. Looking forward to getting some more of her series. The Bachelor, The Player, and The Heartbreaker, follow the three Chandler brothers, not looking for love, but ultimately finding it. Thanks in part to their mother. All three of these are fast and light reading. If you are looking for a laugh, go get this series.

Third Book of the Chandler Brothers trilogy,
By
This review is from: The Heartbreaker (The Chandler Brothers, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
'The Heartbreaker' by Carly Phillips is the third book of the Chandler Brothers trilogy. This novel tells the final story of the oldest Chandler brother, Chase who becomes the bodyguard (of sorts) to the Vice President Candidate daughter. This novel has more mystery and emotions then the first two. I have decided that Carly Phillips is fantastic writer and I will read anything she writes. This novel can stand on it's own but is wonderful ending to the trilogy. The Chandler Brothers trilogy is Bachelor (1), Playboy (2) and Heartbreaker (3).
