Book Description

Gloomy secrets

Who is lurking on silent soles around the heathland and murders one killer after the other of Isabella’s mother, the midwife Rubina? No one dares the other, because everybody can be the assassine. And the daughter of the macabre mangled corpse falls, when seeing the beauty Victor at the first time, in undying love for that nice son of the Count of Grimmshagen, who gave the order to blow out the light of Rubina’s life and also is her enemy forever. Heaven, help! What a strange kind of suspense ... This novel will make you a flash crawl – nevertheless, be sure that nothing is just so like it shines.

Dark times, opaque secrets, flaming passion, dissolute sex, excessive orgies, magic forces, supernatural occurrences, bitter distress, a bloody war, robbery and multiple murder are the ingredients of the thrilling, historic love story, which Gloria Frost wrote in a wonderful writing style, fitted to the mode of speaking in the 17. century.
Happening right in front of his eyes the reader witnesses the confusions without any shore, feels himself put into the many twists and turus of the novel, which is holding undreamt-of surprises, page by page - because nothing is so, how it seems to be in this sublime tradition - tableau of that far a field gloomy era.

In the middle of the chaos of the Thirty Year’s War that has engulfed all of central Europe, the young gipsy Isabella grows up into a beautiful woman. Branded a “Heath Witch” by her persecutors, she fears neither death nor the devil when fighting for her family and her religious belief. As a herbal healer she fights at the front line alongside the Count of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, commonly known as the „Mad Christian“. She passionately defends Protestantism and her faith in the old Germanic gods.
She gives herself just as passionately to her love for the count’s son, Victor von Grimmshagen, as she ignores all taboos and disobeys the church’s ban on bigotry, as do the other protagonists of the novel, who only live for the present. After all, no one really knows if they will live to see another day …

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read July 23, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This book has everything set in the Thirty Year War in central Europe. The story follows Isabella on an adventure with murders, love, romance, magic and supernatural events.

Its a thriller, a romance novel and an action mystery all rolled into one. The theme is about living for the moment since you may very well not see tomorrow.

I really enjoyed this book. I had a blast reading it and would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Passion, Hate and Death in medieval Germany May 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Having impressed me with one of her previous novels (The Purple Reaper), I simply had to read Gloria Frost's new novel, "The Heath Witch". This historical novel is set in medieval Germany during the Thirty Year War. Germany, a country torn apart and tomented by marauding and invading troops, was a wild country at the time. the noblemen and thir families lived in castle, ruling rural countrysides, while the farmers and workers lived scattered in vast areas of farm land and woods. The forests themselves were home to wolves, bears, lynx and other predators, home also to witches and herbal women and hags and gypsies and highwaymen and all kinds of strange people. Gloria Frost's main character, the enchanting gypsy girl Isabella who is called "Heath Witch" and always on the run from witch hunters, is a strong and passionate woman who gets to meet Victor, son of the local count and also a very powerful protagonist - thrown into the tumoils of war, a world consisting of hunters and hunted, death and doom, blood, sweat and tears, they develop a romantic bond that couldn't be more melodramatic.
Gloria Frost dared to move from writing marvellous thrillers to writing historical novels, and like other bestselling writers she did so with equal brilliancy. She managed to write a marvellous and fantastic story set in the most brutal times Germany ever faced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sex and the history May 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Gloria Frost has managed to remove the mustiness from dry historical material and breathe life

into it – in this case the Thirty Years’ War. The exciting plot of the “Pagan Witch” is filled with

fictitious and real figures in the best “Sex and the city” fashion. Frost puts detailed historical

research into a lively human context. Intrigues are started, and as we well know from the Thirty

Years’ War, torture, assassinations and murder abound with people fighting for their life and for

power. There is also love. And how!!! Gloria Frost has not forgotten to captivate her readers and to

give them some understanding of life in the grey past in all its colours and facets. This means that

there is also enough steamy sex with tingling erotic details, which of course must also have been a

part of life about 400 years ago. Yet until now no one has bothered to look into this part of history

in the same manner as Gloria Frost has in her new book. Since the novel is really damned hot, this

new book won’t really be to her credit!
