Review

What it actually does is re-unite the modern, commercially afflicted female with the concepts, ideas, beliefs and practices of the Earth Mother within. (Kate Osborne, Editor, Kindred Spirit Magazine.) The High Heeled Guide to Enlightenment is a powerful and wonderfully entertaining journey into spirituality. I suspect that many readers will see it as the true path to 'women's liberation'! (John Perkins NY Times Best Selling Author of The Secret History of the America Empire.)

From the Author

The High Heeled Guide to Enlightenment capture's Alice's early explorations into a spiritual lifestyle and makes spirituality accessible for a new generation of Women (and men who don't mind reading a pink book). Alice's adventures see her literally living through the dawning spiritual crisis's that enlightenment brings, whilst mixing that with a perfectly normal, slightly rock chick modern life. Her ups and downs are charted, whilst she put's her spiritual credentials to the test. Alice flings herself into a range of wacky, fun and fascinating spiritual practices, and comes out a better person for it. A must read book for any high heeled seeker who knows that there is more to life than lipstick!

A book for anyone who believes that coincidence is never just coincidence, that love can change the world and that there is most definitely something amazing waiting for us after death. Chapters include, The High Heeled Buddha, The High Heeled Wiccan, The High Heeled Kabbalah, The High Heeled Spiritualist, The High Heeled Shaman, High Heeled Reincarnation, High Heeled Healing and High Heeled Divination. A fantastic beginner's guide to all things mystical, esoteric and spiritually fabulous!

"The High Heeled Guide to Enlightenment' is a deeply personal book for me that charts my own life and my journey from a low point to spiritual happiness. But it is more than that too, it is informative beyond me and my life, it depicts some fascinating concepts from my perspective and, in a manner that allows modern folk to see it from their perspective too." Alice Grist --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

"The High-heeled Guide to Enlightenment is the must have book for feisty females who are looking to connect to something other than their Internet provider!"

When I first read this sentence, my curiosity stood on full alert, and I couldn't wait to find out what this book was all about. I ordered the title on Amazon, and just a few days later I had the opportunity to find out for myself.

In The High Heeled Guide to Enlightenment Alice Grist takes the reader on a journey across the board of alternate spiritualities. Rather than delving into one practice alone, the reader is skillfully led to widen spiritual boundaries through the exploration of different practices, ranging from Wicca to Buddhism, Shamanism, Kabbalah and Feng-Shui.

Rather than being a main course dish, The High Heeled Guide to Enlightenment is a sampler platter offering something for everybody. In fact, while I am not a follower of many of the practices discussed, I found their descriptions fascinating and informative. I particularly enjoyed one chapter on coincidences and patterns, and once I finished reading it I found that some of the concepts were expressed in such a fresh, new voice that couldn't fail to charm anyone gifted with an open mind.

The dynamic writing style and the unique approach employed by the author make this book a delightful read for anyone willing to expand one's knowledge and personal boundaries. For the spiritual beginner, it is a must-read guide necessary to learn more about, and differentiate, the different paths; for those already intimately connected with some of the paths, The High heeled Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment is a great reference book aimed at shedding light on some of the roads less traveled.

A wonderful door opener for anyone ready to embark on their own journey toward enlightenment.

One could easily be offended by this irreverent approach to enlightenment and its squint-eyed view of the various popular esoteric practices but how can you take offence with an opening gambit to the chapter on witchcraft: “When Daddy announces that he is a witch, what is a girl to do? ... Having lived through that very experience and without wanting to sound like a halfwit in a salacious women’s ‘real life’ magazine, I can proudly say that my Dad was a witch, and prior to that he was a vicar. Let me assure you it is not half as exciting as it sounds.”

It’s rare that a book of this nature makes me laugh out loud but there’s so much self-depreciating humour and sly innuendo that - taking the name of the publisher in vain – it makes the soul rock with laughter. And yet ... there’s so much serious thought within the pages that you come away with lots of points to ponder. Alice Grist makes her point forcefully yet subtly: that enlightenment is not something you can purchase or apply, but it is something you can search for.

Speaking as an experienced magical practitioner and mentor for nearly thirty years within the realms of traditional British Old Craft and ritual magic, I feel that there is a great deal of ‘old’ wisdom that would be extremely valuable for young adults interested in discovering more about the different spiritual paths without being at all preachy. And as Alice herself admits: “This book is purely 21st century, matter of fact and without the clutter of fairytales to pad it out. It is researched first hand by me, an utterly modern, glamorous rock chick type. This is religious education, amped up, stilettos on and leather gloves off ...

Alice Grist’s “The High Heeled Guide to Enlightenment” is a lively, humor-filled tour of several non-mainstream spiritual approaches available in the modern world, including Buddhism, Wiccan, the Kaballah, Spiritualism and Shamanism. She joyfully juggles concepts such as soul mates, soul groups, coincidences, healing and reincarnation, while keeping us giggling with her charming, up-to-date wit. She has explored her topics deeply, and intersperses her own personal experiences with quotes from numerous sources to support her points of view; yet there is nothing dry or scholarly about this book. It’s thoroughly hip and a joy to read. Grist is aiming for modern women, and being one of them, she does an excellent job of presenting the ins and outs of the spiritual smorgasbord in such a way that readers will feel totally comfortable, understood and catered to. I totally enjoyed it. Highly recommended!

A beautiful read! I loved it! It gives you a perfect taste of the lesser known paths for spirituality. Alice writes with humor and kindness. It is marvelous how open and honest she is about her experiences. It's just enough to give you an idea of where you'd like to go on your own spiritual journey. I have read all of Alice's books and she never disappoints. I highly recommend this book!

Did not like the writer's "bubbly" writing style.
