Book Description

Marianna Zain is in trouble. The handsome stranger she just kissed? He’s a member of the most terrifying hate-group in the universe. Even after he takes her captive, Marianna can’t shake her initial instincts that he’s a man of worth…and her only chance at escaping death.

One of Sanctify’s most decorated lieutenants, Gerard Leoni thought he had everything figured out. But then he crosses paths with a Diviner, the most despised of the alien races, and is honor-bound to bring her in. One night with Marianna makes him question everything he knows.

As the day of her scheduled execution draws near, Marianna forms a plan. She’s going to seduce Gerard—a task that would be simpler if she weren’t being seduced as well. But Sanctify doesn’t take kindly to their people cavorting with aliens, and instead of finding a savior, Marianna may be dragging Gerard to his death alongside her…

5.0 out of 5 stars Futuristic, sexy, and thrilling! June 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Futuristic, dark, and seductive I loved this story from beginning to end!

We start off with Gerard. Who is a soldier for the Sanctify. He's intense and dedicated. After being injured, he finds himself meeting Marianna and really feeling something for her. But, Marianna has a secret: she's a Diviner. One of the Sanctify's highest sought out "enemies". Now Gerard is forced to bring her in because it's his duty. But along the way there's seduction, hurt, and betrayal.

I love the world Katee created. The facts that there's so many species and so many planets she created just blew my mind! Plus this book is sexy as heck! Definitely a story to fall in love with! Main character wise, Marianna is so strong through everything she's thrown into. She definitely holds her own. Then there's Gerard. He's so tough, strong, and set on following orders. But, watching him change and crack just made me love him. And then there's Fisk! I loved him and his role in the story.

I really enjoyed this story and this world and I cannot wait to read Queen of Swords to see what more Katee has in store!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic start to a new series May 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Katee Robert's Sanctify series is a must read for fans of sci-fi romance with strong heroines. Marianna and Gerard epitomize star-crossed lovers in that he's been trained to wipe her kind (Diviners) from the face of the universe. Their relationship is not only explosive in the beginning, it's deep and rich, and the world building will leave readers wanting more. The good news is the first full length novel in the series (Queen of Swords) comes out in June!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Imagined Sci-fi March 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I hadn't realized this novella was more of a set-up for a series, but it didn't feel short. The characters certainly didn't lack voice. It was easy to lose myself in this world in fact. It's not often I'm the first review so I generally leave summations to those more adept, but I guess I'll take a stab at it.

Gerard is entirely sure of his place in the religious tyranny called "Sanctify." Humans are the only right and pure race. After being wounded by aliens he'd been slaughtering on Sanctify's orders, Gerard runs into Marianna in a bar. Marianna is everything he should despise--a Diviner, an alien, but her disguise hides that from him until after he's begun to care for her. Instinctively, he takes her captive to take her back to the High Priest where she'll be purified... a pretty way of saying dismembered and burnt to a crisp. Her tarot readings, their attraction, and his growing doubt in what he's always believed create upheaval with following his perfect plan. Maybe it isn't so perfect after all. Saving a Diviner might cost him his life, but save his soul.

How's that? It stinks a little, huh? Oh well. The novella was good. The characters were brilliantly portrayed and distinctive from villain to hero... and even those who were a little of both. The world was well set-up. You wanted to despise Sanctify but at the same time we humans have a barbaric history of being zealots and a fear of those who are different so there was definitely a dose of realism to go with it. Initially, Gerard's somewhat blind devotion to Sanctify made his POV difficult to stomach, and I was much more comfortable being in Marianna's head, but both point of views were well done and very different. The voice in this novella was phenomenal. I'm planning on watching for the next installment to see if Sanctify gets taken down.

More About the Author

Katee Robert learned to tell stories at her grandpa's knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.

Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way--as it often does--and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she'd like to write a book and try to get published.

Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn't want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?

She now spends her time--when not lost in Far Reach worlds--playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.
