Editorial Reviews

2013 album from the singer/songwriter who just so happens to be the daughter of Hank Williams, Jr.. (which also makes her Hank III's sister and Hank Sr.'s granddaughter). Featuring 11 original compositions of 'serious-minded, heavy-hearted songwriting,' (Nashville Scene), all songs were either written or co-written by Williams. Writing collaborators include Christopher Coleman, Lori McKenna, Sarah Buxton and Cary Barlowe. Co-produced by Charlie Peacock (The Civil Wars) and Williams, the Highway is the follow-up to 2009's Here with Me, and is Holly's first record as an independent artist. Additionally, the album features guest vocals from Jackson Browne, Jakob Dylan, Dierks Bentley, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

I really love authenticity in her voice. You are taking the ride with her as she shares stories from her heritage, about her family and her own journey. A number of the songs bring her family to life: Waiting on June, Gone Away from Me, Drinkin' and Railroads. Without You tells of her time travelling through Europe on a train, and her love for being on the road is also clear on the track 'The Highway', and I can kind of relate to that.

I think my favourite line on the CD is on A Good Man, where she sings that 'Love is not as simple as it seems, But I have learned to trust the space between '. That line speaks volumes about the nature of love.

As you listen to the album her world comes alive, and its clear to me this is what she was meant to do. She tell stories about real people and enables us to connect with ourselves as she does. I look forward to whatever comes next.

I purchased this CD from Holly after seeing her perform earlier this year. These songs remind me of her first album 'The Ones We Never Knew', and really showcase her voice and songwriting. The highlights for me are: 'Waiting On June'; 'The Highway'; 'Without You'; 'Gone Away From Me'. Holly has a gripping voice that definitely shines in these songs. Her writing is very real and intimate, allowing the listener a glimpse into her life.

Seeing her play these songs live really brings out the emotion in her singing. I highly recommend going to a show if she is playing in a city near you.

If you appreciate singer-songwriters with a folksy-country vibe then I highly recommend this album.

Holly's songs cover every aspect of life, love, and loyalty. I listen to this album every day and when it gets to the end I hit replay. Every song on this album is a precious gem, and I am very touched by all of them. "Without You" is my favorite song, and "Waiting on June" brings back beautiful memories of our parents who were married for 65 years and went to Heaven two weeks apart. I also own "Here With Me" which I love just as much as "The Highway." Thank you, Holly, for the gift of your music and your amazing voice.

Oh my! I have listened to Holly's previous CDs repeatedly and have very much enjoyed them. I think this CD is a cut above those previous releases and really does a fine job of showcasing her plaintive vocals. Holly Williams has a beautiful and distinctive voice. A voice that should be heard on the radio all the time. Her style of music falls into the Emmylou Harris or Kathy Mattea branch of country. If those singers appeal to you, then by all means run to listen to this CD. If you only want to listen to Holly to check out Hank's granddaughter, go for it--you might get hooked. This is very fine music.

I admit that I would not buy or listen to an album by Holly Williams' father and grandfather, Hank Williams and Junior. I first listened to this album unaware of anything about Holly Williams or her famous progenitors; I listened to The Highway as I enjoy looking for interesting singer/songwriters. I loved this album from the first listen start to finish. I love to relax to songs with original lyrics that convey a story with emotion that you can follow while listening. When the band and the voice combine to enhance the lyrical, I am a goner. My wife enjoys few new artists and is content to listen to the musicians of her high school and college years, i.e., Elton John, Cat Stevens, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, The Beatles, etc. I hesitated to share my new find as it is very different from her usual likes and generally ignored anyway--but she loved it too! While that may not mean much to anyone else, it is the best testimonial of an album for me. My wife and I in the car together listening to fresh music...bliss.

I know it's only March, but I feel pretty safe in saying that. This whole album is music (remember that? It used to be big.) There's nothing manufactured to appeal to a particular demographic-this is what she loves to sing, and you can feel it. I guess I appreciate honest endeavors no matter the musical genre, and this album definitely qualifies. It's amazing-can't wait for more.

Holly Williams voice is hauntingly beautiful. The song content is wonderfully refreshing over the bubble gum country played on country radio.

I chose this C.D. because I have been a fan of her fathers for a very long time. I had also just read the book Sign Of Life, which was about a car accident that Holly & her sister were in. in that book I became awatre that the sisters were aspiring song writers.
so I looked into finding recordings by them, and found about Holly's new C.D. The Highway. Since I recieved it I have listened to it every day. I would highly recommend it to anybody who enjoys Folk or singer songwriters.
