From the Author

Marlow and Liam hold a special place in my heart. Marlow, because she is so unsure of herself and blossoms as she falls in love, becomes her own woman. Liam, well, he is based on Dennis Quaid's character from The Big Easy. So many people tell me they love these two and I hope you do too.

Born to an Air Force family at an Army hospital, USA TODAY Bestselling author Melissa Schroeder has always been a little bit screwy. She was further warped by her years of watching Monty Python and her strange family. Her love of romance novels developed after accidentally picking up a Linda Howard book. From then on, she was hooked. She read close to 300 novels in one year and decided romance was her true calling instead of the literary short stories and suspense stories she had been writing. After many attempts, she realized that romantic comedy, or at least romance with a comedic edge, was where she was destined to be.

Influences in her writing come from Nora Roberts, Jenny Crusie, Susan Andersen, Amanda Quick, Jayne Anne Krentz, Julia Quinn, Christina Dodd, and Lori Foster. Since her first release in 2004, Melissa has written close to thirty short stories, novellas and novels released with seven different publishers in a variety of genres and time periods. Those releases included a 2005 Eppie Finalist, Two Capa finalists, and an International ebook best seller in June of 2005. Surrender was named top Category Romance by Authors After Dark, and she was named Author of the Year and Most Accessible Author.

Since she was a military brat, she vowed never to marry military. Alas, fate always has her way with mortals. Her husband is an Air Force major, and together they have their own military brats, two girls, and an adopted dog-daughter. They live wherever the military sticks them, which, she is sure, will always involve heat and bugs only seen on the Animal Discovery Channel. In her spare time, she reads, complains about bugs, travels, cooks, reads some more, watches her DVD collections of Arrested Development and Seinfeld, and tries to convince her family that she truly is a delicate genius. She has yet to achieve her last goal.

She has always believed that romance and humor go hand in hand. Love can conquer all and as Mark Twain said, "Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand." Combining the two, she hopes she gives her readers a thrilling love story, filled with chuckles along the way, and a happily ever after.

Marlow Smith's close friend and employee Joey Vernon hires a gigolo for Marlow. She thinks Marlow needs to cut loose and get laid and what better way to do this than hire someone for a one night stand?

While staying in a hotel in Dallas, Marlow decides she can't go through with it and goes down to the bar to fire the gigolo. However, when she meets the man who she thinks is the gigolo, she changes her mind and ends up spending the night with him. She leaves before he wakes up but to thank him for such a good time, she leaves him a $100 tip.

Liam Campbell is just sitting at the bar when Marlow comes up to him. Liam is a born flirt and someone who's into having a good time, but not relationships. Although he's not the gigolo that Marlow thinks he is, he takes one look at her and decides to take her up on her offer.

Three months later, Liam shows up as the business consultant that Marlow's father has hired to help the family's grocery store business. During those three months, neither Marlow nor Liam have been able to stop thinking of their night together. Now that he's seen her again, Liam wants to continue seeing Marlow while he's in Abilene, but Marlow, wanting her father's approval and leery of Liam's reputation as someone who loves `em and leaves 'em, wants to keep it strictly business. Of course, Liam convinces her otherwise.

If I could, I'd give this 3 ½ stars. It's not quite a 4 star novel. I wanted to shake Marlow and her need for her father's approval. And I couldn't quite buy Liam's growing attraction to Marlow. Spice-wise, this book is about as hot as a Harlequin Blaze novel. But it is a fun read.

I loved the story about Liam and Marlow. She was a whisp of a women who wasn't taken seriously with her parents and her suitors. I was angry with her father throughout the book.
Liam is a strong character who fell hard for Marlow. He was willing to wait until she was able to see what she was missing. I'm glad our Marlow didn't feel the need to reinvent herself for a man.
While i enjoyed the book it was a bit redundant in the beginning.

As if I didn't love the other series Melissa writes (All the Harmless series) I hope she continues writing the Hired Hand Series. This being the first, it captures our attention. It took a while to get the second (Now out titled Hands on Training) I hope it doesn't take as long to get a third. Very worth reading. It is too fun to think her friend hires a Gigolo for her birthday and she mistakes a really hot guy for the gigolo and yet still goes to the hotel with him even when he tells her he's not who she thinks he is. Although, he didn't exactly get to informational in details...love is fought and denied until it couldn't be and yet still is. There are more characters that Melissa can develop and hope she does for future novels. This is equally as fun to read as her Harmless series, which if you haven't read one can only ask........why the heck not?

This was a really good book. It was very sexy and I really liked the fact that the main character was a curvy girl instead of some model type. I like the authors writing style. I would say that this is a "Must Read" book.

Marlow's friend hires a man for her to sleep with. When Marlow refuses to do it and instead wants to go to the bar to dismiss him, Joey hides her clothes leaving only a skimpy dress behind. Marlow goes anyway and meets Liam, who matches the description of the man on the note Joey left. He invites her for coffee and they end up sleeping together. But then Marlow leaves. Fast forward 3 months and they meet again in a business capacity. They begin a relationship. The plot is vague but the characters are very well developed.

I really enjoyed this book. Melissa has done it again. She has written a great story about Marlow and Liam. It's a wonderful way to explain the characters and realize the love that has developed in such a small amount of time. Can't wait to read more. On to the next one.

I thought this book was sexy and had an interesting romantic storyline. The characters had personality and ambition. I did find that the chapters didn't end/start where I expected them to which felt awkward as they would happen in the middle of a conversation.
