Book Description

Fairfield is a quiet logging town that is slowly fading from memory. When a strange object falls from the sky and crashes down in the woods, it is one of the most exciting events to happen in recent history. Two young boys decide to track down the fallen object, and unwittingly unleash a terrible darkness.

Sinister forces spread through Fairfield, invading the minds of the citizens and transforming them into mindless drones. Sam Gibson, disinterested slacker and soon-to-be high school dropout, finds himself thrust into the leadership of a ragtag group of survivors that includes a juvenile delinquent, an elderly shopkeeper, a young teacher, and his own mother. Together, this unlikely team must battle for not only their survival, but for the future of the human race. As they struggle to free the town, they will discover a horrifying truth about the nature of their enemy, and will have to face a terror from beyond the stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars No holds barred small town alien zombie invasion August 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really didn't know what to expect from The Hive so I had my bar set pretty low. After a fairly dull first chapter that made me think I was being transported back to the 50's the action picked up and never stopped. It was a fast paced thrill ride through a town infected with something out of this world. The reader gets to follow a group of characters through various epic struggles for survival. Not everyone makes it. If you are looking for a fairly priced and well paced mixture between alien invasion and shuffling zombie hordes you will likely enjoy The Hive quite a bit. It loses one star for some minor copy editing mistakes in the last third of the novel and a very slow starting chapter.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Enjoyable Read July 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The only way to be more immersed in a zombie-survival thriller would be to actually live through one. Despite being a little choppy at the beginning LeBeau created a hard-to-put-down read with characters that everyone can relate to and will feel like they know personally.

I look forward to seeing what he comes up with next and how he matures as an author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable but fun March 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Starting from a premise that requires you to immediately suspend belief, the story quickly becomes a fairly predictable horror story. There are no surprises along the way. It was fun to read, but not the greatest. Is it worth it? If you have a few hours to kill, I'd say so. If killing zombies is your thing, you might enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent first book July 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed the characters in the book. The story was a well paced, soft science fiction thriller. A little bit dark with plenty of violence but very entertaining.
