The Hobbit
Six Different Editions

Pick the version of the Hobbit that best suits your needs.

A great modern classic and the prelude to The Lord of the Rings, with an iconic cover inspired by Tolkien’s designs.

This charming deluxe pocket-sized edition contains the complete unabridged text and features a beautiful leatherette cover and gilt-edging. The perfect gift for little Hobbits everywhere!

A beautiful gift edition of J.R.R. Tolkien's enchanting tale, fully illustrated by Jemima Catlin.

This deluxe hardcover edition of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic prelude to his Lord of the Rings trilogy contains a short introduction by Christopher Tolkien, a reset text incorporating the most up-to-date corrections, and all of Tolkien’s own drawings and full-color illustrations, including the rare “Mirkwood” piece.

The text in this 372-page paperback edition is based on that first published in Great Britain by Collins Modern Classics (1998), and includes a note on the text by Douglas A. Anderson (2001).

This deluxe collector's edition of Tolkien's modern classic is boxed and bound in green leatherette with gold and red foil rune stamping on the spine and cover. The text pages are printed in black with green accents. It includes five full page illustrations in full color and many more in two colors, in addition to Thror's map -- all prepared by the author.

Amazon.com Review

From the Illustrated Edition of The Hobbit

Dwarves
"[This was] in fact no other than the great Thorin Oakenshield himself, who was not at all pleased at falling flat on Bilbo's mat with Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur on top of him."
Gandalf
"All that the unsuspecting Bilbo saw that morning was an old man with a staff. He had a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, a silver scarf over which his long white beard hung down below his waist, and immense black boots."
Smaug
"Smaug lay, with wings folded like an immeasurable bat, turned partly on one side, so that the hobbit could see his underparts and his long pale belly crusted with gems and fragments of gold from his long lying on his costly bed."

The Hobbit is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins that goes on an unexpected journey. T would recommend this book to anyone who likes fiction, fantasy or adventure. One reason i would recommend this book is because the conflict is amazing. The reason it was amazing is that all the conflict is detailed and interesting. The second reason i would recommend this book is the characters. The characters are interesting, like Gollum "Thief, thief, thief! Baggins! We hates it, we hates it forever!" The last reason i would recommend this book is the situations. The situations the characters get in are awesome, cool, nerve-racking, and so much more. Some people might not like this book because of all of the fantasy in the book. Although, i think the conflict, characters, and the situations make it a great book. t would recommend this book to anyone who likes fiction, fantasy adventure. This book is fun to read and it had an awesome plot. If you like fantasy, you'll like this book.

The Hobbit is a book filled with adventure. It's fun to read and fills the head and heart with an immense imagination. I recommend this book to anyone who can appreciate the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and fully grasp the art of imagery he wields.

The Hobbit is a true classic! If you've not read this in school, consider picking this one up. You won't regret it.

LOVED THIS. HAVE ALL THE REST OF THEM AS WELL. JOHN DOES A FANTASTIC IN NARATING THE BOOK, AND IT IS TAKEN RIGHT FROM THE BOOK, WHICH IS WHAT I LOVE ABOUT IT. CAN'T WAIT TO LISTEN TO THE REST OF THEM. LOVED IT. JOHN'S VOICE IS SO GREAT, EACH AND EVERY CHARACTER HAS A DIFFERENT VOICE, AND IS DONE SUPER WELL. A MUST LISTEN TO FOR LOTR/HOBBIT FANS.

It is not often that movies are better than their books. It is so in this case. The book is great in and of itself. It is also terribly interesting as a contrast both to where the genre and the language have come over almost 80 years.

Excellent read, but not as good as the Lord of the Rings. You can see how the autthor grows more comfortable with middle earth by reading both books. This was exciting with interesting and different fantasy.

Good book. Movie really made a meal out of this one though. However I can see how this book is so popular. Well ahead of its time
