Review

Praise for THE HOBBIT novel: 'The English-speaking world is divided into those who have read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and those who are going to read them.' Sunday Times 'A finely written saga of dwarves and elves, fearsome goblins and trolls... an exciting epic of travel and magical adventure, all working up to a devastating climax.' Observer

More About the Author

J.R.R. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but even as he studied these classics he was creating a set of his own.

This is a beautiful book! Lovely pictures of all the cast, especially Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. Arrived promptly! It has activities that I enjoyed even as an adult.

This story is timeless and will go on forever. I have read it so many times and still love it. Some authors have the greatest imaginations to their credit and for our pleasure of reading and enjoying it.

Warning-- this book is deceptively titled and is not "The Hobbit" (the actual book which the recent movie is based on). Rather it is a companion of artwork and other "visual accessories" from the recent movie production. However by giving this book the same name as the real book (with the words "2013 annual", which they cleverly snuck in at the end), many possible readers of the real book will be denied the opportunity in this calculated attempt to soak up as much money as possible. A shame because the real book is one of the greatest books written in the last 100 years and is a treasure.

Having said that, were this book given an honest title, the artwork is wonderful and would be valued by many. Too bad the marketing department got hold of it and decided to sell it deceptively. In so doing they did a disservice to the real book "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey", it's potential readers and also the artist of the publication listed here on this Amazon page. I hope Amazon investigates.

This annual was an unexpected delight which is full of stunning full-color photographs that capture the wonders of Peter Jackson's new epic film. Full of interesting activities that will keep children (and older children alike!) busy for hours; I would highly recommend this book to add to your collection of Hobbit memorabilia. Join Bilbo Baggins on his unexpected journey across Middle-Earth with Gandalf the Wizard and a company of thirteen Dwarves, all from the brilliant new movie which is simply spectacular.

Included within this 61 page hardback volume are some exciting treats, such as; your own company contract, full-color map of the company's journey across Middle-Earth (from Mirkwood to the Misty Mountains and Rivendell), cut-out bookmarks and character profiles. What also makes this annual special is that alongside the frivolities is the detailed information included about each character and how the film is connected to JRR Tolkien's novel "The Hobbit" - which is a treat for those who want in-depth material on the story that was put on the big screen.

Fun activities include:
Puzzles, wordsearch, drawing
And my favorite...
Riddles in the dark!

I am so pleased to add `the Hobbit: 2013 annual' to my collection, as a fan of both the book and the incredible first film. I however do feel that at £7.99 (UK pricing) it is certainly over priced and so if you can purchase this second-hand, then I would highly recommend that you do so for it would make an ideal, inspired gift or present for any Hobbit lover. Due to the price I have rated this accordingly, for I purchased my own copy a lot cheaper online secondhand.
