About the Author

Christopher Eastin identifies himself as "a liberated corporate slave living off-grid and writing in the mountains of Southern Colorado." He built his own cabin, grows most of his own food, generates his own power and brews his own beer… Eastin "bugged-out" from his comfortable life as an Information Technology Director a few years ago. He says, "I abandoned the rat-race!" Since then he's lived off his stored survival supplies at Bear Ridge while building up his ability to become as close to self sufficient as possible. He shares his space with three dogs Axel, Conway and Ruby as well as BoyBarb, his ill-tempered cat. He blogs daily at The Bear Ridge Trading Post where he chronicles his life off-grid in the mountains. His writings focus on issues he's encountered since leaving the corporate world for a simple, self-sustaining life. Eastin uses his true life experiences as both a city dweller and mountain survivalist as co-author of his first book, The Home Survivalist's Handbook. In this, he's tailored his real life solutions for those living in and around the cities. He is also currently working on a four-book series about survival, homesteading and off-grid living in the mountains of Colorado. The series is due out in 2011 and early 2012. http://www.BearRidgeTradingPost.com/ http://www.HomeSurvivalist.com/

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Survival Guide For People Living In The City, November 13, 2011

Concise and easy to use guide without all the fear mongering and end of the world apocalypse stuff. Good solid advice for protecting your family.

The checklists are complete and very useful. I carry a copy in my purse when I goto the store so I can check off items as I find them. The cost estimates are very helpful.

The Home Survivalist's Handbook was written for everyday people facing real problems. It is not for those hard core militia types although they would probably find the information very helpful. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for cheap ways to protect their family.

3.0 out of 5 stars Home Survivalist's Handbook, October 17, 2011

Some good advice here but does not quite deliver on it's promise. The book could be half the size if they had used something other than 20-point type.
