Book Description

From a #1 Kindle bestselling author, in development as a feature film.

"Like Stephen King, he has an eye and ear for the rhythms of rural America, and like King he knows how to summon serious scares. My advice? Buy everything he writes."-- Bentley Little, The Haunting

THE HOME

When twelve-year-old Freeman Mills arrives at Wendover, a group home for troubled children, it’s a chance for a fresh start. But second chances aren’t easy for Freeman, the victim of painful childhood experiments that gave him the ability to read other people’s minds.

At Wendover, Freeman and the other children are subjected to more secret experiments, organized by a shadowy organization called The Trust. But the experiments do more than open up clairvoyant powers--the electromagnetic fields used in the experiments are summoning the ghosts of the patients who died at Wendover back when it was a psychiatric ward.

Now a new scientist has been brought into the project, an unstable and cruel pioneer in ESP studies who performed most of his work on a very special subject: his son, Freeman Mills.

5.0 out of 5 stars This will make a great movie September 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm glad someone optioned this book for a movie. We haven't had a good spooky movie (read: non-blood and guts flying everywhere movie) in a while.

Scott can write a solid, scary atmospheric book that makes you jump at any noises in your house. That takes a special gift, which Scott has in spades.

Wendover House is a character unto itself, occupied by a gaggle of folks and disturbed kids. The characters are all well-developed, and one can identify with them, including the "bad guys" like the warped pseudo-scientists. It takes a classic theme - playing with powers you don't understand and awakening something horrific - and gives it a spooky spin. It reminded me of the old black and white horror movies I used to watch as a kid, before I was corrupted by cookie-cutter flicks and CGI over story.

One of Scott's best novels, I recommend it to genre fans and folks who like their books to invoke emotions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scott Nicholson does it again! September 28, 2012
By Chris C
Format:Kindle Edition
Scott Nicholson is an awesome storyteller. You just never know what you are going to experience when you pick up one of his books. This book has ghosts, mad scientists, a secret society, and ESP. If that doesn't draw you in, then I don't know what will. Loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Nicholson Book! September 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Scott Nicholson has done it again! I think I've read just about everything Nicholson has written, and this has become one of my favorites. It has everything. The Home has ESP, ghosts, mad scientists, murder, troubled teens, mystery amd mayhem! I loved it! Any Nicholson fan will love this one, as will any fan of the genre. I missed out on a lot of sleep with this one. As always, I can't wait for more work from this author.

I got so sucked in, kinda wish there was a follow up to this story. I love when a book makes you want to know more about what has happened to the characters.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok book
Too much psycho babble. Otherwise a good story of evil science running amok in a disturbed children's facility. The ending is somewhat of a cop out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Strange
I'm not saying it was a bad book I liked the story line but towards the end it got a little far fetched! Very interesting due to me working with the mentally ill.
