Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Denay (The Hot Mom's Handbook), blogger and founder of the online community Hot Moms Club, focuses on the mom-to-be in this reissue with a snappy cover and design. Denay explains that a hot mom is a woman who is confident and empowered, and who embraces motherhood without giving up her sense of self. The single mom of a nine-year-old boy, Denay covers a wide range of subjects of interest to pregnant women, including healthy eating, baby showers, the latest trends in babymoons (a romantic, before-baby trip), and where to find a masculine-looking diaper bag for dad. Along with practical information on how to design an eco-friendly nursery and useful special sections called bump on a budget, eco-minded mamma Denay touches upon topics that may be of limited appeal, such as what to do about piercings and nipple rings (i.e., nix the latter if breastfeeding) or how to look gorgeous in a HOT nursing bra. Though readers seeking more solemn fare will no doubt quickly lose patience with Denay's chatty prose, many moms-to-be will warm up to the Hot Moms Club discounts and shopping tips, and others may simply enjoy indulging themselves with a breezy read before baby arrives. Pages for journaling dropped into the text seem out of place in this busy guide to shopping, staying hot, and pampering the mom-to-be. (Feb.)

Review

"I wish I'd had Womb with a View when I was pregnanc because so many pregnancy books focus on just the physical or emotional changes of pregnancy. This valuable tome is truly a handbook for Hot moms because it tells you like it is and helps you prepare for your new role." -- Danielle Friedland "Publisher & President of Celebrity Baby Blog"

This book is okay if you're in your twenties, fashion conscious, and a nervous, first time mom. However, as someone who's been a parent for almost a decade, is nearly 40, fashion conscious, and expecting again, I have one word for you: Resources!!!! I skimmed the 1st 114 pages that were useless to me; I don't care about Trista Sutter's birthing experience, I know how to handle the issues that seemed monumental the 1st time, but seem frivolous now, like how to handle unwanted advice, input, etc. I also think parts of the book are ridiculous, like ringing bells in your baby's room before decorating it, or, on p.105 it says that pregnancy makes you dumb, and to use it as an excuse. If you can get past the grammatical errors, and fluffy, well merchandised aspects of the book, you will find it has a plethora of outstanding resources. I could spend hours online, but all the work has been done for me. This time around, I'm confident in what I want, and really what I don't want/need. I refuse to let motherhood impinge my style or comfort, and this book has all the go-to websites for gorgeous nursing wear, and I haven't even made it through the dozens of decorating resources. I relish the idea of a new baby again, but I'm also excited to spend more money on myself this time on quality necessities that look beautiful, instead of a mountain of useless, expensive items the baby doesn't need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Mom to Be Handbook--SO MANY RESOURCES! August 19, 2012
Format:Paperback
When I first found out I was pregnant, I was so overwhelmed by all the book options that I decided to only grab a few, and this one barely made it into the pile because the title seemed a bit cheesy. However, I was very pleasantly surprised with how helpful it is. Denay is like a more-experienced friend giving you the inside scoop on what to get, what to skip, where to get different items, and offers eco-friendly and budget-friendly advice and resources. She really covers a wide range of topics, writes very nicely in an easy-to-read format (that doesn't have the reader falling asleep or skipping pages), and goes quickly from topic to topic. Her advice is practical, judgement-free, witty, and great for anyone still trying to figure out how to transition into this new stage of life. I earmarked so many pages that I had to stop because I ended up marking about half the book. With all the books out there about how the baby's changing, Denay covers how YOU will be changing during pregnancy and how to cope. (Note: This is not written from a medical perspective, so don't expect in-depth scientific information about your pregnancy and the baby's development). More than anything, I recommend this book just for the sheer number of resources she provides (TONS of websites for all different kinds of products). I can't speak for women who've already been through a pregnancy, but for a first-time mom this book is great. Great Gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Starter Book for Resources August 28, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
When I first found out I was pregnant, I honestly didn't feel pregnant nor was I really ready to embrace pregnancy. Enter this book. I knew I had to start somewhere, and somehow, this book with its freshness and peppy woman-to-woman talk really appealed to me. As I enter my 17th week, I have gone back to it for resources and just a review of some sorts. The book is divided by month and as I am now about 4 months preggo, I answered til then. I first bought this on Kindle, but found so many resources I wanted to bookmark that I bought it on paperback. I don't regret buying it a bit; the book is now studded with Post-it flags! Thank goodness for this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun read for any mom or mom-to-be!
Great book if you're a fashion-conscious mama. This book gives great, humorous insight on how to steer clear of turning into "frumpy mummy", or just giving up on yourself.
