5.0 out of 5 stars How You Like Me Now? Pretty Good, Actually
After a Kia commercial & Google search, I found the wonder that is "How You Like Me Now?" The song was so good in fact, I couldn't resist buying the full album, to which I implore you to do also. 1.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately very bad sound technology.
It's been very disappointing for me the purchase of my first MP3 album. While the Heavy makes great music the review falls on them directly because they must be aware of the terrible sound of most of these tracks. Specially when you listen to them with high quality ear phones, those that are supposed to catch all the great details, well in this case unfortunately it...

5.0 out of 5 stars How You Like Me Now? Pretty Good, Actually, March 13, 2010

After a Kia commercial & Google search, I found the wonder that is "How You Like Me Now?" The song was so good in fact, I couldn't resist buying the full album, to which I implore you to do also. Stepping into the music of The Heavy, you know you're stepping into something special. The quality of some of the songs on this album is just so good, so energetic, it transcends almost everything else in rock n' roll over the past 10 years. Heck, Letterman even had them play an encore for the first time in his show's career. And after sampling The Heavy, you'll be hard-pressed not to order an encore as well.

Highlights Include:

How You Like Me Now?

Short Change Hero

Long Way From Home

Cause for Alarm

Stuck

Once you get past some of the more indie/experimental elements of the album towards the beginning, and as soon as it transitions to full rock mode, then the album is almost virtually untouchable. The Heavy sounds like a combination of James Brown meets The White stripes, meets The Who/Classic 60s Rock. I'll admit, this isn't the most original product in the history of music, or even in its own genre, but The Heavy plays better than most out there. They also do a pretty decent ballad.

Overall, The Heavy mixes energy and soul into its blues rock, and brings out a killer combination. I can't recommend this album highly enough, and if you're a fan of modern indie or alternative rock, you'll be right at home. But even if you're not, The Heavy certainly does enough to convince you otherwise.

Saw this band on the Late Show on January 18th, 2010 and they were excellent. The song they played "How You Like Me Now" was amazing and Letterman was so impressed that he asked for an encore, something I've never seen or heard him do before. Check out the album, you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, sweet funk, June 28, 2010

Don't let anything fool you about the appearance of this album....this is James Brown and George Clinton inspired funk. It isn't the same as either of those guys but keeps the same hard driving beat and moves it forward into the 21st century. Many people will call this R&B but unless you're talking about the 60's when Staxx Records and Motown were called R&B you're in the wrong category. Funk is what this is and rocks the funk out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cross between Pulp Fiction and Beetle Juice!, April 28, 2010

Love this album!! It is like Pulp Fiction and Beetlejuice had a baby and this is it...that is the only way I can begin to describe the feel of this album. It is awesome for a road trip. You have to listen to it loud to really appreciate it. I loved every song from the get go, and the more I listened to it the more it grew on me. I hope they put out another album of this caliber. I love the originality and would highly recommend buying it...you cannot get the full jist of it from the snippets you hear on the samples.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where have these guys been?, April 22, 2010

Wow! Just Wow! I listen to a lot of music, and buy a lot of Amazon's daily deals. Every once in a while (I can probably count the times on a single hand) a band comes along that hits my top 5. Something so stunningly good you wonder how you've never heard of them and can't imagine them not changing your playlist forever. The Heavy - The House That Dirt Built is definitely one of these moments. I don't know what it is, but this album just works for me on so many levels. There are a number of songs that rock and a few that are beautiful as well. These guys are authentic rockers who remind me how manufactured most of the stuff I listen to actually is. I'd say more but I'm off to go find more albums by The Heavy.

5.0 out of 5 stars I agree!, September 1, 2011
This review is from: The House That Dirt Built (MP3 Download)
I recently heard this on a local radio station and was blown away. Then I realized this was the great music from the Kia commercial. I immediately went to Amazon and just entered the words I thought might be the title. And there it was! I loved reading the first review for "How you like me now?" I wondered how old is this? Well, not very. And thought if James Brown and Morris Day had a love child this would be it. Which is very similar to the first reviewer's opinion. I plan to investigate the rest of the album for more absolute gems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, Thanks Reddit !, January 22, 2011

I was bored on Saturday night browsing Reddit when a link to The Heavy playing on Letterman showed up. Letterman asked for an encore which is extremely rare or first time, and that caught my eye. Many Karma points for this one, the album is outstanding. It's fresh in some ways and yet still feels familiar to some of the old school funk/rock bands. All killer no filler on this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars These guys are the Next Big Thing., July 30, 2010
This review is from: The House That Dirt Built (MP3 Download)
Saw this band at 80/35 festival in July in Des Moines Iowa on a free stage. They had everyone in the crowd on their feet. The lead singer has tremendous charisma and stage presence. Keep your eyes on this bunch!

5.0 out of 5 stars A real big surprise, April 23, 2010

This one came out of left field and hit me hard, but in a good way. I had seen this cd before and had listened to the samples but it didn't do it for me, no matter how many times I listened. Then it was the deal of the day for $2.99 and I purchased it, and what a surprise it was. I mean every single song on this is great. It's not often that I play the same cd over and over, I usually like to change bands every time a disc is over but not this time. Highly recomended!!!

Just like everybody else I was intrigued by the Kia commerical to want to find out who these guys were. I Found the clip from their appearance on the Letterman show and I was sold. I was absolutely floored how great this album was and their previous Debut was as well "Great Vengenance and Furious Fire". There is definately a revolution going on with music these days; new sounds, new chemistry and The Heavy is one of the newest innovators to lead the way.
