Editorial Reviews

Review

"Serving as editor in chief of the interior design magazine Southern Accents gave Newsom the courage in 1987 to start Veranda, which began as a magazine for regional interiors and expanded to show homes throughout the world. Here Newsom presents houses and gardens that exemplify the best of her magazine. More than 200 color photographs depict lavish, primarily professionally designed interiors in styles from classic to modern with text explaining the designers' and residents' approaches. Although quite a few of the dwellings are located in the southern United States (as befits Veranda's origins), homes throughout the United States and Europe also are included. VERDICT: Newsom's collection of homes will appeal to those seeking inspiration for an extravagant living space." -- Library Journal

1.0 out of 5 stars Very boring. January 15, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is not a good inspiration book, at least for the average woman who loves design. The content is too repetitive.

3.0 out of 5 stars Colors less than vivid, expected more from Veranda... November 15, 2012
By C. M.
Format:Hardcover
This was a disappointment, as my expectations had been to engross myself and revel in the gorgeous colors that the Veranda publications is famous for. Things are on the bland and dated side, mildly boring, and in general, just not exciting enough. Can't truly recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful book July 4, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a beautiful "coffee table" type book. My only reservation about it is that most of the rooms are on the neutral side. I personally love COLOR and like to see colorful rooms. Still the homes are stunning!
