Book Description

November 16, 2009 1607095548 978-1607095545 6th Edition
The sixth edition of this essential guide was created for both novice grantseekers who need instruction on how to begin the process, and seasoned grantseekers who want to learn new techniques to save time and increase success. Revisions and additions reflect the enormous changes and challenges that have occurred in the grants marketplace since the fourth edition was published in 1999. The exhibits and tables have been updated to reflect advances in technology and computer usage.
Over half of the book is new to enhance the reader's ability to compete in the current grants marketplace--and to avoid the failure and wasted time of proposal rejection. Included are a historical perspective of the grants marketplace and insight on what to expect in the next few years. This edition also offers concepts that were not included in previous editions. These concepts arose from advances in technology and the growing desire of grantors to fund consortia that hold the promise of new and different interdisciplinary opportunities, while also providing for cost efficiency through the sharing of resources.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Since it was first published in 1984, Bauer's manual has become a standard in its field. In this new edition, he has updated the examples, added some new strategies, and expanded the information about online resources. Bauer offers many suggestions and tips (as well as encouragement) to help grantseekers become proactive. The first section does a good job of helping grantseekers see the grant proposal from the grantor's perspective. It also provides information on how to develop and document a proposal, write and refine it, and find the right venue for it. The second and third sections cover the process of identifying and applying for government and private grants. In addition to clarifying the differences between public and private funding, these sections detail the planning, research, and submission of grants, as well as how to follow up on them. The book includes tables, charts, and worksheets that summarize the information and help grantseekers focus their thinking. If a library can only purchase one book on developing grant proposals, this one should be at or very near the top of the list.AKathy Breeden, Univ. of Tennessee at Chattanooga Lib.

This book is a tool that could be included in any grant writer's toolkit. Since it explains each aspect of grant writing, its easy to understand this very complex and evolving subject. The CD included with the book is further support to the listener and useful. I am quite impressed with the ability of the writer to communicate instructions that would otherwise be very confusing.

for class March 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was pleased when I discovered that it was available as an electronic download. It has made life so ,much simpler particularly as it doesnt weigh anything! :) As to the content, it is a textbook aimed at guiding one through the highly difficult and often convuluted world of non-profit grant writing. One aspect that I applaud the author is his attempt to simplify, and I don't mean dumb down, but simplify this confusing process. Now if only the grant making organizations would take the hint.
