Perfection,
This review is from: The Human Animal (MP3 Download)
Yes, it's a bit of a departure from the older material and usually that sucks when you love a band. I love this album. Perfectly layered, never overdone, beautiful. Flow is my absolute favorite track. Saw the band in Seattle a couple o weeks ago. Fun times.

This review is from: The Human Animal (Audio CD)
android lust's latest album "the human animal" is less angry and more accessible than her previous albums. the songs lose even more of the harsh edge compared to the previous album "devour, rise and take flight." overall, "the human animal" does have a more intimate softer feel, made more so by the warm inviting bass lines. this album moves closer to a subdued industrial rock sound, but shikhee's mastery of painting a dark landscape is still on display here.
shikhee, a resident of new york city, used found sounds from the streets/subway for atmospherics. "the human animal" should be listened through a pair of good headphones to get the most out of the atmosphere/mood. this album should also be listened to as a whole to achieve mood. the tracks seem to be set up that way. for example, "the return" is only about a minute and a half long and serves as more of a bridge than a song in its own right. shikhee knows what she's doing and by the time you get to the ninth track, "one world," you look back and realize you're already sucked into this sound. the album closes with a darker remix version of "god in the hole." it's an excellent closer and i might even prefer it to the original more aggressive version found earlier on in the album. shikhee's vocals are engaging as usual. "one world" and the very ethereal sounding "flow (of impermanence)" stand out to me, especially for the haunting ghostly crooning that's reminiscent of "wicked days." very nice. "the human animal" is a natural progression from "devour, rise and take flight." this album is worth checking out for any android lust fans already familiar with her work, and should please some newcomers as well. it's definitely worth a listen, but those yearning for the angry screaming shikhee to return will be disappointed.
