Book Description

Obesity and social unrest destroyed the country once known as Nor-America. From its ashes rose the mighty PainEm, the Capitol of which is home to the enlightened few who can eat processed foods and use money.

For everyone else, there's The Hungry Game.

The Hungry Game is an exciting yearly cooking event for tweens and teens, sponsored by the PainEm government and the PainEm Food Channel. Each of PainEm's 12 Areas sends one boy and one girl to cook in fabled Big Kitchen. The winners will have their recipes featured in obnoxious PainEm Food Channel host Guyman Ferry's new book, Guyman's Big Bite Battle Book. The losers will be executed by the Cookblockers.

The Hungry Game follows the adventures of Kantmiss Everclear and her maybe-boyfriend-but-maybe-not-it's-so-confusing-when-you're-a-teenager-in-a-dystopian-nightmare-world Pauladeen Mudlark as they cook it out against an all-star lineup of Young Adult novel contestants, including Parry Hotter, Fartemis Owl, Horseyboy, Edward Sallow and Blaivan der Dorfwood.

Who will win? What shocking twists await the participants? Are there any zombies in it? Why not read this spoof novel and find out?

"The Hungry Game" spoofs young adult novels, teenagers, cooking shows, cooking competitions, politics, the obesity epidemic, junk food, social order, and cats. If you have any interest at all in any of those things, you practically have a moral obligation to purchase this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nasty-Don't buy this book! April 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I will admit that I didn't buy this book, but even the sample made me want to barf. I am a big Hunger Games fan, and I like to check out all of the books some how related to the Hunger Games. This one by far was the worst. The people in this book are cannonibals! The people that are suppost to be Katniss and Prim, EAT their father. That was just plain dicusting. The other things they eat are nasty-I won't even tell you. If you read it, you will understand. Also, I read the summery, if you are a Harry Potter fan, this book includes "Parry Hotter." Don't read this book. Go spend your money somewhere else.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nasty excuse for a spoof. June 7, 2012
By Athena
Format:Kindle Edition
If you have a stomach at all, don't read this book. If you have a reading skill over that of a young child, don't waste your time. My younger sister could write something with more substance for comedy. Don't waste the time or money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Discusting....don't buy April 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The sample was yucky how the guy "popped a pimple in his mouth after plucking it off his face" and how Katmiss or whatever her name was thought, "I am not going to throw up even though if I did I would have something to eat later"

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Spoof I've Ever Read!!! April 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not going to lie. I almost didn't read this book looking at others reviews but being an avid spoof reader I figured I'd at least take a look at the sample and decide from there and I am very glad I did. First of all, to extinguish these complaints everyone's giving about the gross stuff they eat like: Feces, ash, tears, Buttercup, their father; sure it's there but there mentioned so passingly you barely even notice and once they get passed the flashback on how Pauladeen (Peeta) saved her that's the end of it besides ONE on the train so do not let that steer you away from this book.

A huge plus side I noticed from this book compared to even the original book is that they had this well worked out explanation for how America had become 'PainEm' that at least I and everyone else I've talked to about it find it completely realistic that it could actually happen to where you could be seriously worried that all this might start happening tomorrow.

Another huge plus is compared to other spoofs I've read it's more comparable instead of plot point by plot point to where if you read the original book you know exactly what's going to happen but though I have read the original books many times I was completely caught off guard by the majority of this book. I won't give any specific examples for the sake of spoilers but there's even parts where comparing to the original books you might THINK you know what's going to happen but then you turn out to be completely wrong.

Finally there many fun references to other fandoms such as but certainly not limited to: Harry Potter, Twilight, Alice in Wonderland, and my favorite being Violent of District 4 made as a clear parody to Violet from Willy Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
