About the Author

MC Foley (melinda corazon foley) was born in Cebu, Philippines, raised in Virginia and resides in West Hollywood, CA. After winning a poetry slam competition in Oakland, CA - MC Foley paid rent with the winnings, and began touring as a performance poet, doing shows across the U.S. and overseas, including tours through the UK and Denmark, where Foley performed on Denmark's national radio station, Radio P3. Foley then wrote/acted lead in "The Coconut Masquerade," a play written entirely in verse and produced by Bindlestiff Studio in San Francisco's SOMA district. Segments of "Coconut," were featured in theaters around the country including the national Hip Hop Theater Festival and LA's Greenway Court Theater. Now in LA, MC Foley is an active novelist, studying screen and television writer and weekly e-columnist on The Business of Show Institute's e-newsletter, which reaches 40,000+ global subscribers - thebusinessofshowinstitute.com. "The Ice Hotel" arose from one awful Saturday in November ~ when a phone call reminded Foley just how fleeting our time is on this earth. After that day, the voices of Rossa, Izzie and Poe, as well as the multitude of stories that weave into the novel, grew swiftly. Until they were too loud to be ignored.

Very quickly I was pulled in by Ms. Foley's unique writing style, which effortlessly flows back and forth between prose and poetic verse.

My reaction to The Ice Hotel echoes those of the first two reviewers. The author's unique writing style -- weaving seamlessly between prose and poetry -- and sharp characterizations make The Ice Hotel an enjoyable read. It was hard to put down...I read 50 pages before I realized it. The story has a strong sense of place fortified by a dose of understated fabulism that works very well. The dogsled trip, for example, was breathtaking. The main characters are sympathetic and quite believable. Makes me ready to go to the real Ice Hotel.

I couldn't put the book down early on. The story is full of wonderful details about a place I will probably never visit; the suspense is palpable. I finished the book lying on the beach under the sun in Mexico and could feel the Arctic winds. MC Foley really brings you into another world; fascinating!

The Ice Hotel is written in a style that strikes a ground breaking balance between poetry and pose. It is an amazingly fresh, exciting and emotional read.

I don't classify myself as a young adult, but I found this book not just entertaining, but at points, riveting, and ultimately more than worth the price. Whether you're a kid or an adult who enjoys fantasy, it's a great read. Foley does a fantastic job with her colorful descriptions of the people & places in "Ice Hotel." You never really know what's coming on the next page which is a big part of the fun. And what I particularly liked is how, unlike many other fantasy books/movies/etc., "Ice Hotel" doesn't just take you for a wild ride, it also makes you think, reflect on not only your own existence , but human existence in general. It's a rare combination of an action/adventure/fantasy story and a reminder of just how short & precious life really is.

Just because it is labeled a "young adult" novel, does not mean that you should not be reading MC Foley's "The Ice Hotel". In our uber-cynical society, it makes my soul smile to read a genuine act of love and magick. I have read tons of science and speculative fiction, fantasy, and the like, but very few books have touched me like "The Ice Hotel". All of the characters are fully realized and the worlds they inhabit are at once familiar and uncanny. I cannot wait to see what MC Foley does next. Hell, it could be a cookbook, and I'd be the first one to pick it up.

This is my first book by M.C. Foley and I can say it won't be my last. The vivid detail of her words hooked me from the first chapter. I have made this a Christmas gift for many book lovers in my life. I can not recommend this book enough. M.C. Foley is a writer that I will follow from now on, this book is that good!
