4.0 out of 5 stars a modern, sensual fable, December 31, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ice Maiden (Unbound)
The Ice Maiden was a quick read, but got to the "good stuff" pretty quickly. Quite a few lusciously described sexual encounters with just enough story linking it together to make it more romantic than purely purient. The setting is contemporary, but as it revolves around a private island and the sex lives of the outrageously rich, it's full of fantasy nonetheless.

The description of the book promises domination/submission, but only of the most mild sort, except in two sequences. Even then, the emphasis is either on the trust and love in such an arrangement or as a revenge scenario, not on cruelty without reason. The emphasis on how the very rich can surround themselves in sensual luxury and how mirrored ceilings can be somehow tasteful, reminds me of Jackie Collins pulp novels. It's a very simple story, nothing very complex plotwise. But, sometimes, you don't really want to think that hard while you're "enjoying yourself" anyhow.
