I read this book in just a few days - I couldn't put it down. The fact that it is a TRUE story & was carefully documented will take you on a journey filled with every great emotion...sadness, anger, affection, joy, a realization that without research we would have nothing of the inroads made in the last half century. You will also be shocked to realize that all of us most likely have cells on file someplace & that is the enignma that will haunt you once you finish this book. Henrietta & her family, her daughter Debra especially, will become so real to you, & I believe that you, as I did, will be drawn into their lives & ride the crest of such emotion that it will leave you breathless at times, in tears at others & speaking in anger at the injustices so often found in this world. Do not miss this book; it is life changing!

Excellent telling of a very sad exploitation of HeLa's AFRICAN AMERICAN family in the South in 1950 to
present time. Great reporting by Skloot.

This was a great story about something that I was familiar with but didn't know all the background material that was historically associated with it.

Thorough coverage of critical information about HeLa cells. Raises valid questions regarding informed consent for research by targeted participants.

I just want to thank the author for bringing this story to light and for involving her family, as Henrietta herself cannot benefit from her legacy.

I liked the book although it had a lot of repetitive technical information that was detracting from the plot line. I would certainly recommend it.
