Editorial Reviews

Taped on location in Hawaii, this audio program provides a rare opportunity to listen in on a profoundly moving dialogue between two of the three "most spiritually influential people alive" (Watkins Magazine).

Dr. Wayne W. Dyer and Eckhart Tolle delve into everything from ancient spiritual texts to contemporary pop culture as they tackle questions we all wrestle with, such as Who am I? What is real? and What is the meaning of life? Yet even as they discuss weighty topics such as the economy and addiction, the mood remains graceful, loving, and even humorous. Through their combined wisdom and perception, Wayne and Eckhart bring you inspired lessons for an exhilarating spiritual awakening. This, according to Eckhart, "consists of relinquishing identification with the conditioned mind through the cultivation of awareness."Although these lessons are full of rich, philosophical insight, they are also very practical and can easily be applied to the individual listener and the world at large. For, as Wayne explains, when we "create a world of extraordinary people who look beyond what they were programmed to become, we impact the entire consciousness of this planet."

I just finished this wonderful two-cd audio set by spiritual powerhouses Wayne Dyer and Eckhart Tolle. What a combo! They have an insightful visit with each other, made me think of coffee with Wendy--although our audience is usually furry household pets instead of a lecture hall full of appreciative spiritual seekers!

Having recently read and thoroughly enjoyed Wishes Fulfilled by Wayne Dyer, I found the cd's to be aligned with the same beautiful concept of "I Am." Our extraordinary selves are described as both encompassing and transcending our ordinary selves. Our physical, emotional/mental selves comprise our fabuluosly ordinary self; our infinite soul, our Presence, is our extraordinary self. This conversation is support for recognizing our ego vs. our I AM.

A big message that I got out of this is to treasure what I am--this is the extraordinary in me. An affirmation given for this is:

I treasure my magnificence to be an awake being.

If you have read any of Wayne Dyer's or Eckhart Tolle's work, you will enjoy this cd set. If this is your first encounter with either, you will also appreciate this insightful exchange. Their interaction is synergistic, their shared thoughts are uplifiting, and their humor is divine (pun intended!). I bet even the Dalai Lama would get something out of listening to this! The first cd has four tracks, totalling almost an hour (58:23). The second cd has six tracks and includes audience questions at the end, for a total of a nice, healthy hour (66:35).

Hay House gave me this awesome spiritual support cd set simply in exchange for my honest viewpoint of it. Two listening hours very well spent, I'd say. :)

Although i'm sure Dr. Dyer is a wise man in his own right having gone through and transformed from personal challenges, it was borderline annoying having to listen to him on this audio CD and that's why i'm only giving it 3 stars. There's a lot of "ego" attached to Wayne despite the teachings to let it go. I lost count of how many times I hear "I", "me", and "mine" coming from his mouth, plugging his books (past and future), name droppings of important people he's been associated with, all of his PBS productions etc. Eckhart Tolle, on the other hand, was truly inspirational and humble. He spoke of "you" "your" and "we" more often than any "I". The other annoying thing about Wayne is his incessant quotation of others. Yes, he has a great memory for reciting OTHERS' quotes and poems.. yes, they are inspirational.. but they are "borrowed" and not original by any means. Eckhart offered simple yet profound insights which are more refreshing than any quotations he can regurgitate off the top of his head. He did reference to the Bible and certain Zen masters stories occasionally, but the bulk of his insights came from his own head and heart. I might have given this CD a full 5 stars if it were just Mr. Tolle or some guest other than Wayne Dyer.

"The Importance of Being Extraordinary" CD set by Wayne Dyer and Eckhart Tolle is absolutely wonderful; as usual, both Wayne Dyer and Eckhart Tolle deliver a profound amount of thought provoking information beautifully weaved together with humor and humility. They both come to the table with the intention of transmitting a spark of consciousness to help us disarm our ego and open ourselves up to the true meaning of our experience here on Earth.

In the CDs they touch base on various topics from health to violence throughout giving bits of wisdom helping us to see beyond what is happening in our perceived world. I love the way both Wayne Dyer and Eckhart Tolle have the ability to, through casual conversation, drop incredibly profound statements that have the potential to be life altering. One statement, one quote could be just the thing you need to shift from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

Here are a few that struck a chord with me:

"We teach people to be ordinary" Wayne Dyer

"Extraordinary is to be awake, aware, present" Eckhart Tolle

"Living in the moment, nothing is premeditated; thoughts come out of fields of awareness" Eckhart Tolle

"I am" Wayne Dyer

"...relinquish desire to understand conceptually and access that in you that is beyond concepts then you find the meaning of life" Eckhart Tolle

"All of us have the anchor of the universe inside of us" Wayne Dyer

"Nothing that is real changes" Wayne Dyer

So why is being extraordinary so important? Good question. I don't think it's about being extraordinary as much as it is about letting go of the ordinary. Bottom line, our natural state is one of limitlessness that is just temporarily shadowed by our ego mind thanks for reminding us Wayne Dyer and Eckhart Tolle.

Hay House was gracious enough to give me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion of it, through their Book Nook blogger program.

I really enjoyed feeling as if I were present in the room as Wayne Dyer and Ekhart Tolle sat and chatted for a spell. I began with the expectation that I would be sitting in on a lecture, with clearly defined bullet points and a list of lessons learned. What I found was that the lessons were gently woven into the context of a friendly conversation between two wise souls. Among other things, Wayne Dyer shared his transformation from a serious diagnosis to vibrant health; Ekhart Tolle shared the importance of staying in the flow of Spirit and avoiding the pitfalls of egoic thinking-- not in a lecturey way; more in a "been there; done that; not going through that again!" sort of way. I will listen to this conversation again. It was an enjoyable way to spend two hours and to experience beautiful spiritual principles as they are masterfully applied in the lives of these highly conscious, heart-centered people.
Through their Book Nook Blogger's Community, Hay House was kind enough to provide me this collection for free in exchange for my honest opinion.
