5.0 out of 5 stars I'm impressed! September 9, 2005
Format:Audio CD
I've owned this cd for years and years, but never really appreciated it until a few days ago... I guess I finally caught up to it!

The surprising thing is that this music was out the same time as Motown and Atlantic, and yet you don't hear any of these songs on the your local oldies station... except MAYBE Brian Hyland's cover of "Gypsy Woman" on a lost 70s weekend...

Twelve songs, and it's done in a little over 30 minutes (those days are gone forever!). What great songs, though! "It's Alright" is probably their most famous; great drumming. People are probably more familiar with Rod Stewart's great cover of "People Get Ready" than with the original.

Johnny Pate, "the fourth Impression", arranged the songs and the sound is unique. I wish I could describe it better; it doesn't sound like Motown or Atlantic, but it's still soul.

I was tempted to trade this in for the Impressions Ultimate Collection, but after sampling that disc (20 songs, almost an hour long, but it seemed padded) I'm sticking with this one.

No collection of 60s soul would be complete without this disc.
