Review

“[Owings is] the Renaissance Man lurking in the shadows of the underground rock Renaissance.”—LA Times

“Highly recommended as superior toilet reading for masochists who like music too much.”—mojo

“The book is super packed with yuks...the book is mostly very funny and worth buying.” —Vice.com

“You don’t get extra credit for owning more than one copy of Radiohead’s latest humcore opus. How do we know? By testing ourselves with this encyclopedic, tongue-in-Will-Oldham’s bearded-cheek series of indie rock quizzes.”—Entertainment Weekly

“Every time you flip through the book you’ll find some new piece of minutiae that will have you laughing out loud.”—The Agit Reader

“The truth is, there are not very many people writing this style of satirical culture book anymore.”—Slug Magazine

“Something laugh-out-loud funny pops up nearly every four or five sentences.”—Blurt Online

The Indie Cred Test is the most dense expression of an unnecessarily self-obsessed culture you may ever see.”—The Daily Swarm

“Pointlessly insular and gut-bustingly hilarious.”—Spin

“Henry Owings has been fearlessly and amusingly taking the piss out of rock ’n’ roll for nearly 20 years.”—Pitchfork

If you are new to Chunklet, I suggest that you get H.W.Owing's Ultimate compilation of on-purpose Overly-Hateful reviews ---

If you are literally looking for a "Guide to Be Hip," - I suggest that perhaps you find a safe wide open space, (nothing beats the desert, and peyote) and GO ON a SOUL SEARCHING Walkabout, in which you try and experience the experience as it applies ON a MACRO level, rather than making it all about yourself -- As folk tend to do, myself included

If you are some kind of a Chunklet-completist, first of all, good luck, and second... Sure this is for you

As a big fan of Chunklet, This was, in my opinion, maybe exactly what it was meant to be, TOLIET READING // That said --- I suppose it should get more stars, BUT I tend to also read AND/OR listen to much better poo-books and magazines

If you kind of know of Chunklet, but haven't gone full awesome book with it Instead OF this TRASH

[ Chunklet's Book of OverRated It is AWSOME.... ]

Or look up the now defunct Fantagraphics' published YourFleSH. A ZINE that moved on out of MINNESOTA and got deservedly widespread distribution through a company that asked little of the magazine in the way of changes....(i.e. you don't see Fantagraphics ADs EVERYWHERE, Here and there......SURE, But yeah... This particular defunct quarterly had staff top tenner lists, pulp fiction reviews, film reviews, INTERviews with the likes of Cronenburg, Ralph Steadman, and Mick Farren (an interview, in which they chose the high road and discussed his underground SCI-FI rather than his connection with the MC5 and Wayne Kramer)

How is it that this book has no reviews? I found it in an indie book store (of course) and spent the next few days devouring every page. Sure, it can get tedious, and many of the music references may escape most people (including me at times), but it is damn funny. Tears running down your face, stomach cramping, unable to compose yourself, funny.

Everything about this book is pure gold. The content is hilarious- a perfect blend of self-agonizing humor and irony. Not to mention that it's is beautifully printed and well thought out. Worth every dollar in humor and aesthetic value, plus it upped my indie cred by like 1000 points.
