I'm amazed at the absence of reviews on this page -- as well as the throwaway price this CD is offered for! All performances here are quite good -- starting with the Concerto of Aranjuez _impeccably_ played by Tokos (first time I hear this name, but his performance here is first-class).

I'd like to especially point to the version of de Falla's Spanish Dance played by Jurgen and Monica Rost. You don't hear too much about these musicians, but their rendition of the piece is the best I've ever heard. Try it, then the popular Williams/Bream version and you'll see what I mean. Williams and Bream are very good musicians, that's why I'm bringing them up -- as good as they are, after the intelligent and tasteful interpretation by Rosts, their version seems hasty and w/o nuance, despite being objectively good.

This CD is truly great; I don't know why it appears to be sitting abandoned here: don't be fooled by the low price, instead take advantage of it. It's great music. It's just no one's making noise about it for some reason. Well, let me try to remedy it. If you like spanish guitar music, you'll love this one, guaranteed. Rosts play with incredibly good taste; I'm going to search out more of them now.

I bought this CD after becoming interested in acquiring some classical pieces performed on lute. The Bach selections are incredible. I am impressed with the quality of the recording, as well as the selections on this disc. I can listen from start to finish and enjoy each song.

This seems to be part of a huge multi-CD set, each concentrating on a specific instrument, and I would highly recommend this disc, as well as any other part of the set.

Like any other classical cd, these bargain sets are hit or miss anyway, but occasionally they hit a home run. Its hard to go wrong with good classical lute or guitar, and the same holds true here, as there are some true gems presented, starting with an excellent performance of Rodrigo's concerto. And you'll discover a composer you've never heard of named Fernando Sor, whose guitar sonata here is almost Rossinian in spirit, and is truly better than even the exquisite Bach that appears on the cd right after it. There's even some stuff here by somebody named Jon Dowland that is lovely and worth listening to.This varied and unique collection of guitar music seems like a bargain at any price, and will likely sweeten your collection like nothing you've bought in a long time.

This musical effort is apparently part of a project to educate the listener to the sounds of various classical music hence the title: 'The Instruments Of Classical Music: The Guitar & Lute'.
SO why not take the time to identify the instruments used on the tracks! I am a professional guitarist so the lute and the guitar sound different to me ; but there are many people that cant tell the difference between a guitar and a saxophone, much less between two stringed fretted instruments .
As a teaching aid this receives a grade of F as recorded music I give it a B
