Reading this book reminded me of one of my favorite quote: "Don't let schooling get in the way of your education." ~ Mark Twain

When I was 8 years old I remember sitting in my 3rd grade elementary school class very confused and bored out of my mind. I had no clue what the purpose of school was and better yet how it would help me in the future. I grew up in very poor neighborhood; Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York. Schooling was just too much theory and not enough application.

After many years of struggles, I now have a very successful career in corporate America, I'm a successful business owner and bestselling author! I realize that having an entrepreneurial mindset; things had to be practical for me and traditional schooling is everything but practical! I love learning but I have to be honest I was very skeptical about International Bachelaureate system of education, but after giving the book a fair shot and reading it to the end I realize that anyone interesting in making education more practical would love this book.

This book is an excellent resource. The author, Thomas Baker, provides information that is relevant for anyone who is interested in the quality of education. Thomas Baker is non-partisan, he doesn't take sides a priori. After looking at both sides, he reaches a conclusion that the evidence available clearly indicates that the International Baccalaureate system of education is the best in the world. Whether you agree or disagree with his assessment of the International Baccalaureate, you are sure to find this book a well informed and well-researched, excellent resource. Baker's enthusiasm, in the end, is well justified based on the case studies he examines. I highly recommend this book for anyone with an interest in high quality education.

Are you a parent considering an IB education for your children? Are you an educator considering becoming an IB teacher? In this book, Thomas Baker shows the advantages of the IB program. He recommends it highly for any nation looking for a high quality education system to implement. The IB has been implemented in over a 130 countries worldwide. This international portability is one of its most attractive advantages. The International Baccalaureate Diploma has many other advantages over the more traditional high school programs. Students study a wider range of subjects, including English, Math and a foreign language. They also study Theory of Knowledge and complete a research paper, called the "Extended Essay." The final part of the Diploma is the Community Action and Service element. This combination means that the IB students have learned advanced research skills, they have learned how to reason and argue within Theory of Knowledge. Around the world, many IB graduates go to university extremely well prepared for the demanding and challenging degree courses they take. It is a well known fact that university admissions counselors open their arms wide to receive IB graduates. These students complete their studies on time and go on to advanced level studies. Overall, this book is clearly written and supports the author's recommendations. Parents and teachers will find this book very useful. I recommend it highly.

As someone who has young and middle-school aged children I found this book to be a helpful resource when considering the IB program at our high school. Baker provided the information I was looking for, and I liked the case studies. The author's passion for education is refreshing, and I appreciated his perspective. Would definitely recommend!

As a mature person, who has not had a college education, I find myself thinking about taking the plunge and enrolling in a University. I bought this book because I was very curious to find out, just what a IB programme could offer me. I am a world traveller. I believe in a global world, where educational standards are equal and its diplomas transferrable to any part of the world.

I sometimes wish I could go back in time. I remember school. I was bored, eager for the bell, wanting to go out with friends at the end of my last class. I did not appreciate the gift of learning.

After reading this book on IB education, I believe that finally, the world is beginning to realise that equality and world standardisation in education is very important - and more - very necessary. Here is a quote from the book: the IB Diploma Programme gives students the knowledge, skills and attitudes that enables them to excel in university. The programme is well recognised by the world’s leading universities and truly prepares students for the working world”
What appeals to me is the fact that any student from any background in any country that runs this programme, has an EQUAL chance of success.
This book was very well put together, and as always, Mr Baker, sets the information out in understandable terms. His easy, relaxed way of giving an overall view of his subject is present in every educational book he writes, and I find that refreshing.
