3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Michael Conrad on February 7, 2009
Format: Paperback
This book is an excellent account of the War of 1812 from a Canadian (unbiased) perspective. The accounts of the battles and sites are to the point and given in vivid detail. Having grown up in the heart of War of 1812 territory and being American, I of course was taught little to no history on the subject matter at all. This book should be required reading for all citizens in the states of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. The accounts are colorful and the illustrations are some of the best I have seen on the conflict. I would recommend this book as a companion to a more in depth book on the subject, such as Amateurs to Arms! by John R. Elting.

Format: Paperback
The Invasion Of Canada: Battles Of The War Of 1812 by historian Ronald J. Dale (Superintendent of Niagara National Historic Sites) ably recounts the United States' invasion of Canada during the war of 1812, when Thomas Jefferson declared that annexing Canada would be "a mere matter of marching." Yet fierce battles would make him regret those words. The Invasion Of Canada offers the reader a vividly recounted, event-by-event survey of this relatively neglected aspect of American/Canadian history, as well as the men who became Canadian legends. Full-color photographs enhance this superbly written, highly recommended historical account.
