QUITE HOKEY BUT HEY...IT'S ROBBY!, June 30, 2005
This review is from: The Invisible Boy (VHS Tape)
It's a long step down from Forbidden Planet but Invisible Boy gives us a chance to see the great 50's robot on-screen yet again. I had never even heard of this movie until just recently when I noticed it playing late one night on TCM. I decided to tape this oddball sounding film and wasn't disappointed. Little Timmy is the son of a scientist who is working on a powerful supercomputer. Basically his dad just wants Timmy to stop bothering him. Timmy finds a disassempled Robby in a storage room that his dad said came from the future! Huh? No explanation there, but could it be the same future of Forbidden planet since Cyril Hume who wrote this story also did the screenplay for that sci-fi classic? Anyhow Timmy puts the Robot togehther and the robot soon comes under the influence of the powerful supercomputer and sends him off to try an steal an experimental. Like I said, it's all pretty hokey and there's plenty of holes in the plot. Were left to accept to much on faith. But all in all it wasn't a bad film. It's always cool to discover little gems like this. Thanks TCM!

Mainly For Kids, September 2, 2000
This review is from: The Invisible Boy (VHS Tape)
Kids will probably enjoy this adventure of a boy and his robot (which looks suspiciously like Robby the Robot from FORBIDDEN PLANET). The story has very little to do with the boy's invisibility, but focuses more on a computer which takes control of the plans of a group of scientists. Very dated, but somewhat entertaining.

What ever happened to Robbie?, August 30, 2004
This review is from: The Invisible Boy (VHS Tape)
Well it turns out that between "Forbidden Planet" and the TV "Lost in Space" series (which he was on a few programs) he made this movie. I figure he may have been hard up for lube oil. But it is a fun movie that is geared mostly for the youth.
A scientist not paying much attention to his son except to keeping him out of trouble and occupied inadvertently creates the right mix (boy, and robot from the future) to insight a supercomputer (precursor to Colossus) to have designs on the world. Who are the good people and who is the bad? Keep in mind that it is hard for supercomputers to ware hats (black or white) or robots to get hurt by artillery. I feel that invisibility will be needed for the job.
