Book Description

December 8, 2004
From the unconventional mind of Siamack Baniameri comes a story of a man who is living the Iranican Dream. "The Iranican Dream (Inside the mind of a Middle Eastern-American man)" is a humorous account of a paranoid Iranian-American man in post 9/11 America who is raising two rambunctious teenagers by himself while dealing with a hormonally imbalanced ex-wife, a conspiracy buff father, a ninety-year-old sexually zealous grandfather, outrageously traditional Middle Eastern relatives, and a transsexual best friend who goes to the heart of a war zone for his sex change operation. "The Iranican Dream" is a hilarious journey inside the mind of an Iranian-American man whose world is comprised of lavish encounters with bizarre characters in some of the most outlandish circumstances. Baniameri brings to the spotlight a fresh breed of Middle Eastern immigrant in America who inadvertently gets himself in comical situations by constantly plotting to sabotage his ex-wife's relationships, preventing his teenage daughter from dating boys, pestering women to go out with him, and manipulating his best friend to participate in his tedious schemes.

About the Author

Siamack Baniameri is a rocket scientist at NASA where he supervises top secret government space projects. Baniameri is also a professor of economics and a fellow at Harvard where he heads departments of Biology, Geology, Anthropology, Apology and all the other departments that end with "ology." He is on the boards of directors of multiple multinational companies. In his spare time, Siamack Baniameri advises world leaders such as George W. and Tony Blair on world affairs and foreign policy. Well, that's what his mom thinks.

In reality, Siamack Baniameri works for a plasma television manufacturer as a plasma donor. Prior to that, Baniameri worked at a sperm bank as a sperm donor. He was subsequently terminated after numerous complaints from customers about the low quality of the sperm. Many of the infants were returned for a refund.

Baniameri, a militant nudist Buddhist, has devoted his entire life to organizing support groups for men with hideous circumcisions. He also heads a nonprofit organization called, "Middle Eastern men for better body hair removal products." Baniameri has traveled the world looking for the answer to the most fundamental question asked by every man: where the heck is the remote control?

5.0 out of 5 stars What a treat! March 19, 2005
By Reza J
This book is a treat! The writer has this canny ability to pull you in and get you involved with his characters. It's not only funny but it brings out the dirt on everything that is sacred to us Iranians. I highly recommend this book. But a word of advice: this book is not for people who're easily insulted, have dry sense of humor or think that the Persian Empire is/was the center of the universe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, enjoyable and easy read - A must for immigrants March 18, 2005
I just finished this book on the plane tonight and it was one of the funniest books I've ever read. Baniameri captures the views of the stereotypical Iranian in a hillareous and corrupt character who schemes in every aspect of his life. The character is not intended to be realistic, so I think Nader totally missed the purpose of the book. The character is a cross between Ramond (from Everybody loves Raymond) and George Lopez, but with a middle-eastern twist in a post 911 era.

Baniameri works in recent political events such as the Iraq war, 911, Saddam Hossein and other events into the story in an extremely funny way, not to mention the typical Iranian view that everything is a major conspiracy.

The book is extremely well done and it's a very easy read. I highly recommend it!

I couldn't stop laughing while reading this book. Baniameri has truly captured the Iranian culture and has added a hilarious twist!!! I find myself relating back to the book whenever I get together with family. I highly recommend this enjoyable and quick read to anyone, but especially to immigrants from the Middle East.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Funny April 18, 2005
The writing is not a master piece or close to great. If you are looking for a light reading and having a good laugh try this book. The key is not to take things seriously.

1.0 out of 5 stars ? March 7, 2005
By Nader
Critique, especially of one's own culture, is required and welcome. It leads to greater awareness and better understanding of both the postive and the negative. There are many negative aspects to the Iranian culture, not to mention the positives, that are worth discussing. However, it is very difficult to fiqure out the point of this book. All the characters in it, specifically that of the narrator, are quite despicable, with no redeeming value. Is this supposed to be a portriat of the Iranian community in the U.S., or a sick joke at others' expense? Waste the money, get the book, and make your own judgement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Iranian, Persian or American you will laugh January 16, 2006
My wife is american and we have been fighting for who gets to finish the book first. It is very, very funny - light reading and applies to me (an insider looking out) and my wife (an outsider looking in).

If the language wasn't as strong, I'd let my 15 year old read it too!

The author should send it off to be made into a funny movie.

If you can't laugh at being a middle-eastern man in the post 9/11 America, paying taxes and trying to raise teenagers with morals then you better go see your therapist!
