I really loved Kris Kennedy's first novel, and this second is no exception. Senna is a great heroine. Driven. Independent. Smart. And her profession is so unique. I found her to be a very fresh and intriguing character, one that I was rooting for and cared about. Pair her with Finian and you've got major fireworks. He is the perfect foil for Senna and I found their sparring to be highly entertaining. I found it to be a very satisfying read!

i really enjoyed the story the characters, and especially the ending. as a history teacher, i know how few real irish romances were true- and had little hope for the outcome of this one. but kris tweaked and twisted a solid ending that left me checking out other books by this author. well done.

Kris Kennedy's star is rising at warp speed with her To Die For Hero in this super sexy, heart stopping medieval, The Irish Warrior.

Admittedly, I don't normally read medievals. I'm not much into violence or political intrigue in my romances. That said, last year I read an excerpt from The Irish Warrior and was champing at the bit the read the rest.

The story begins with some violence. Okay, perhaps a lot of violence. Our hero, Finian O'Melaghlin, an Irish noble, warrior, and chief to the O'Fail king, is being tortured by Rardove, an English lord who is evil with a capital E. Rardove wants to use Finian to secure documents, a blueprint to create the Wishmés dyes. These legendary dyes have the power of chemical weaponry. The side who possesses them would be indestructible. Rardove wants them. Finian is out to make sure he never gets them.

Our heroine, Senna de Valery, arrives in Ireland to meet with Rardove to finalize a deal for her wool business. What she finds instead is Rardove intent on marrying her and utilizing the gift he believes she inherited from her mother, who was a Wishmés dye witch (as they called them). This is not what Senna came for so she refuses him and is quickly and violently shown that no one refuses Rardove.

Desperate, after seeing Finian shackled and sharing a silent potent exchange with him, she connives by drugging Rardove and the prison guards, escaping with Finian, whom she needs as a guide in this unfamiliar land.

But on the run, they are wanted fugitives with bounties on their head, for Rardove will stop at nothing to get Senna back. Their flight from Rardove is both taut with sexual tension as well as breath-stealing suspense.

This is the first Kris Kennedy book I have read, and I was very pleasantly surprised. An aspiring author myself, I had recently taken a class taught by Ms Kennedy. I enjoyed the class, and thought I'd read one of her books. It was fantastic, and she's now been officially added to my auto-buy list. Her hero and heroine carried just enough baggage to make the story interesting, but not slow the present day events at all. And she very skillfully wove the character's stories together with perfect pace and tension - great job, and I'm looking forward to reading her first novel.

It is close to St. Patrick's Day so I wanted to indulge my inner Irish and my love for reading so I randomly chose this one based on the blurb. It sounded exciting talking about a romantic adventure in medieval Ireland.

And did it live up to expectation? Oh yes! And then some. It is definitely a historical romance, but there was also a slight fantasy twist and a large dose of intrigue. As I advanced through the book, mysteries were answered as more were revealed. People were not always what they seemed.

The story begins with an English baron, Lord Rardove, who holds lands in conquered Ireland trying to exact answers the hard way from the leader of some Irish captives, Finian O'Melaghlin. The Irish leader refuses him and they play a little cat-mouse trying to figure out what the other knows.
Then the story shifts to a loan English woman, Senna, coming to see this same Lord Rardove about investing in some of her prize sheep and the wool industry.
Unbeknownst to her, she is the pawn in a far greater scheme. Everyone is after the recipe process to the secret dies created from the legendary Wishme mussels. The dye formula not only creates the most spectacular wool cloth, but it can be worked to create a powerful explosive weapon. Senna just happens to be the last in a long line of dye witches capable of creating the Wishme dyes.
Senna learns of her fate as soon as she arrives at Lord Rardove's castle. His cruelty toward her is secondary to the dread of learning he plans to force her to marry him and force her to make the dyes. Senna is fiery and brave, but she knows that he will have his way if she does not escape.

Senna de Valery is intent on a business deal with the Englishman Lord Rardove and travels to his holding to propose a lucrative partnership based on the unique quality of the wool from the sheep she's been breeding for the past twelve years. Rardove, however, has other intentions and they're not nearly as...mutually beneficial. The cruel Lord borders on madness in his quest for a legendary dye, driven by an unquenchable avarice. He's convinced that the only woman alive who can give him what he wants is Senna, and he'll stop at nothing to posses her. Horrified by the dawning understanding of what Rardove is all about, she rebels to calamitous consequences. Soon she's beaten, the fingers of one hand broken, and left alone to suffer for her insolence. Only a short, wordless bolster from a chained prisoner reaffirms her strength of pride and determination. She sets her mind on escaping. She sets her mind on taking that prisoner with her. And what that prisoner, Irish warrior Finian O'Melaghlin soon realizes is that what Senna sets her mind on, Senna achieves.

Senna and Finian race across the wild countryside of historic Ireland, intent on freedom and safety at a time when both are so desperately hard to come by. Finian is at turns bewitched, befuddled, and bemused by the woman who rescued him from prison, and he's utterly captivated and frustrated by almost every aspect of her personality. Senna admires her Irish warrior for his strength and she's drawn to his keen intelligence and ability. And she's totally enamored with his large, fine body, too. Together they are an indomitable pair, much to the surprise of them both.
