3.0 out of 5 stars A different Italian table December 20, 2011
Format:Hardcover
Ron Suhanosky has created a cookbook with about 115 recipes. He says these recipes evoke feelings of his family and friends at a table. The book is divided into 7 chapters with servings of: 4 to 6, 6 to 8, 8 to 10, 10 or more, and 18 to 20 with recipes for the family, company, weekends and celebrations. He tells a bit about himself and his cooking philosophy and what the pantry should have for his cooking. There are pictures for many of the recipes and they will give you some different tastes of an Italian table

The one caution I would have for someone looking at this book is that you should want recipes with different taste. These are not your typical Italian family recipes that one might expect. There are also ingredients that you might not normally have in your pantry, such as: cerignola olives, 4 lbs. of rabbit, or 8lbs of pheasant or wild boar, baby octopus or fennel pollen, or goat's milk.
The recipes are not the easiest to make and they have more complicated flavors than many families with young children will like, such as soft shelled crabs with watercress, aioli and potato salad, or shaved celery with figs, gorgonzola, hazelnuts and balsamic vinegar, and zucchini soup that includes sausage and mint. The book lists sources and their web sites and an index.

It is a book for those looking for really different Italian fare with some very complicated flavors and recipes that have some involved preparation. It is a book that is much more exotic than I thought for family meals, but if that is what you are looking for, you have found it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book! December 21, 2011
Format:Hardcover
I'm a self proclaimed foodie and proud of it! So when James Beard award winning chef Ron Suhanosky released his newest book "The Italian Table", the foodie in mean was satisfied. I've personally prepared a couple of dishes from the book and it's a joy to the palate. Most people tend to stray from Italian food fearing that it may be to heavy, but the only thing you'll feel heavy from after trying one of these dishes is the abundance of flavor. Hands down the dude makes the best meatballs I've ever tasted in my life, I know that's a pretty big statement but it's true. The ingredients are worldly and the fare is enticing. It's a book I highly recommend.
