Book Description

Short Story. Book 1 of the Young Adult series: Genetic Shifters.

Gabriel didn't always have a name. Born in a mysterious facility, he knows he's not human, but an experiment with a purpose that no one is willing to reveal. His life is a routine and an hourglass of when he will disappear. He has no hopes, no dreams, until one day someone new interrupts that routine. Someone like him, someone free, and it changes everything.

Genetic Shifters Series:
Book 1 - The Ivory Prison (short story) May 2012
Book 2 - The Dark Chamber (novella) 2014
Book 3 - The Grey Shackles (novella) 2015

This story was originally written as a part of the Goodreads M/M Romance Group's 'Love is Always Write' event. A collaboration of many authors to respond to prompts about love between male characters.

This is the prompt that inspired this story:
Changelings don't exist. That's what the government wants you to believe. We're their newest weapons for espionage, a reality after decades of failure in genetic R&D, though we still have some anomalies--dependencies--to be "fixed". We need to have genetic material to change.
They say the two of us are finally mission-ready, but I don't want to be separated from the only other "person" who understands this life. I need him.
I don't think that's a "dependency" they expected.

I downloaded it because it was free and I had nothing else to read, really.
I can't say that the book didn't do it for me, but I'm not really into the whole same sex thing, and I was kind of put off by it.
The story had me sucked in, because it was written in a way that made me want to know what was going to happen next. The writing is excellent.

Neither good nor bad, I liked it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Review by Teresa August 12, 2014

This free story was as riveting as it was short. I really appreciated the descriptiveness of the Ivory Prison and its bleak walls. It gave a good sense of foreboding and of the danger that faced Gabriel. I was so thankful for Lukas and his friendship to Gabriel.

As my only complaint was that I wanted more of their story, I am happy to report that The Dark Chamber, book two, will be released this year.

I enjoyed this story right up to the last few pages and then grumbled because of the way the story ended.

2.0 out of 5 stars What!? August 17, 2013
By Karen
Format:Kindle Edition
The book was extremely short, and the author could have done SO much more. Also, why the random gay element? Throughout this novel, there is no hint whatsoever, and the author jut decided to spring it on the reader? I would not reccomend buying this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars I guess it's a good start August 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
From what I understand is that these boys are shifters that shot to be another person. As part of a series this seems to be a good start. This is the first so it really didn't go anywhere, you need to continue to the next one.
