Book Description

It hasn't been a very good day for attorney Samantha Khouri. She's been passed over for partner at her law firm, she's coming down with the flu, and she's just learned that her parents' business is teetering on the brink of failure.

But when she discovers that her financially desperate boss has stolen their new client's gigantic winning lottery ticket, she realizes her day is just getting started.

Now, to return the ticket to its rightful owner, Samantha must stay one step ahead of her nothing-to-lose boss and a homicidal mercenary who's been hired to hunt down the ticket at all costs.

And as her pursuers close in, Samantha can’t help but think about showing up at lottery headquarters, smiling for the camera, and walking away with the richest lottery jackpot in American history.

Editorial Reviews

"It's rich in characterization, suspense, and pacing that will leave your heart pounding, and I don't mean that metaphorically. His plot and dialogue race along with the casual mastery of Richard Price ("Lush Life"), the complexity of David Baldacci's best novels, and the moral imperative of James Lee Burke." - White Cat Magazine

"David Kazzie is an exceptional writer, I was hooked from the first page and could not put it down." - The Kindle Book Review

"This is an extremely well written, captivating novel. Kazzie has a superb way with words and is able to keep the reader easily engulfed within this suspenseful tale of deceit and betrayal." - A Book Vacation

"The fast-pace and rich details of this thriller combined with the entertaining and crisp dialogue of Jackpot make this novel and David Kazzie a new favorite." - Lynnette's Book World

5.0 out of 5 stars John Grisham by way of Carl Hiaasen June 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
"The Jackpot" is just a fantastic book. It's a page-turning thriller that is filled with humor and great characters. And these are fully fleshed out characters, who make relatable decisions. They are not always the smartest decisions, but the reasons they made those decisions make sense for the character.

This is not a by-the-numbers thriller. Each plot twist took me by surprise. Every page was more exciting and intriguing then the last.

But personally the best aspect of this book is the main character Samantha. Just that the main character of this type of thriller is a woman is something new. But Samantha is a fascinating woman. She's strong-willed, determined, hilarious, and vulnerable. From the second you meet her, you're rooting for her.

I highly recommend this book. Download it today. You will enjoy every second of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Suspenseful Thriller July 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is an extremely well written, captivating novel. Kazzie has a superb way with words and is able to keep the reader easily engulfed within this suspenseful tale of deceit and betrayal. Samantha Khouri, an attorney trying to do right by her client, quickly finds herself in the middle of a cat and mouse chase as she attempts to return a lottery ticket, worth $415 million, to the rightful owner. Unbeknownst to Samantha, and those she comes into contact with, her life is in danger simply because she holds the key to a vast fortune.

I highly enjoyed this novel. Kazzie has created suspense at every turn in this riveting story and I could not put it down! The lives of many are intertwined as the ticket literally changes hands multiple times, through both honesty and deceit. There were so many twists and turns within the novel, yet it was easy to follow as Kazzie keeps the reader extremely well informed; the ending left me reeling as it all came together. This is an amazing debut novel and I hope that we will be seeing much more by this author. Five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars A roller-coaster ride of a novel! December 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Hang on tight and grab your blood-pressure medicine! Reading this book is like being strapped into a race car in which the driver refuses to stop going 200 mph and taking corners without braking. With a likable but human protagonist, crackling dialogue, and some genuinely funny moments, this story of a winning lottery ticket will grab you in the first chapter and refuse to let you put it down. Kudos to David Kazzie on a well-plotted story. Books like this make me want to read another one by the same author - so get cracking, Mr. Kazzie! I anxiously await your next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grisham meets Mad Max = Buy This Book Now, Fool! August 14, 2011
By Emm
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Legal thriller meets the thunder dome, this fast-paced read manages to captivate with slaughter and twisted intrigue while also aptly skewering big firm lawyers generally and certain Southern old money sensibilities specifically. Kazzie does it all with snap, crackle, pop dialogue and smart ass charm. Then he adds a certain snatched-from-the-headlines homegrown terrorism thread to boot. If you like John Grisham but thought his books a little light on apocalypse-style gore and/or interesting ethnic slant, why then this is the book for you. Big big fun!

3.0 out of 5 stars A promising first novel August 9, 2012
By Zeldock
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
David Kazzie is the creator of the subversive, influential, and immensely popular "So you want to go to law school" animation on YouTube. (Indeed, he seems to have brought his YouTube cheering section with him to Amazon.)

"The Jackpot," Kazzie's first novel, is a good effort that shows promise. On the plus side, the book is well produced and has none of the typos, grammatical errors, and other mechanical flaws that seem to plague so many indie titles. In addition, Kazzie is a good stylist and can turn the memorable phrase. He's also capable of writing tight, exciting action scenes.

The negatives may or may not have been picked up by an editor if Kazzie had gone through a traditional publisher. First and foremost is his inconsistency of tone. It seems as if he could not decide whether to write a legal thriller, a satire, a pop-culture mash-up, or a straight novel. The book starts out as an excellent legal thriller, but then various other genres keep turning up, getting between the reader and the story. The other major flaw, in my opinion, was Kazzie's tendency to get bogged down in his characters' backstories. Four fifths of that material should have stayed in his notebooks. We don't need to see the whole iceberg.

Still, as I've said, "The Jackpot" shows a lot of promise. I would definitely buy another e-novel from Kazzie, provided he keeps the price below $5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting January 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was one of THE BEST books I have read in awhile. I almost passed it up after reading one of the "one star" reviews that sighted excessive profanity. What a lies. VERY LITTLE profanity. Exciting with lts of twists and turns. One could identify with all the characters. Each one was described in such depth and they were so integral to the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lottery win of an indie book January 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I was asked to review this book for The Kindle Book Review and I have to say, I was intrigued from the start at the plot. David Kazzie is an exceptional writer, I was hooked from the first page and could not put it down.

He is a master of description, of showing not telling, and the moral issues of the book have you thinking..if you had that ticket, what would you do, and what price would you be willing to pay to either do the right thing, or the right thing for you?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone, as it is such an intriguing read. As a fledgling writer myself with a law career in my past, I shall certainly be checking out his viral works too.

Fantastic offering from a great indie author.
