5.0 out of 5 stars John Grisham by way of Carl Hiaasen
"The Jackpot" is just a fantastic book. It's a page-turning thriller that is filled with humor and great characters. And these are fully fleshed out characters, who make relatable decisions. They are not always the smartest decisions, but the reasons they made those decisions make sense for the character.

3.0 out of 5 stars So-So
Long winded and simple story line. Plot was empty of intrigue and ending was so expected. Could not get into this at all. Would not recommend as a good mystery/thriller.
Not impressed. :(

This is not a by-the-numbers thriller. Each plot twist took me by surprise. Every page was more exciting and intriguing then the last.

But personally the best aspect of this book is the main character Samantha. Just that the main character of this type of thriller is a woman is something new. But Samantha is a fascinating woman. She's strong-willed, determined, hilarious, and vulnerable. From the second you meet her, you're rooting for her.

I highly recommend this book. Download it today. You will enjoy every second of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Suspenseful Thriller, July 10, 2011
This review is from: The Jackpot (Kindle Edition)
This is an extremely well written, captivating novel. Kazzie has a superb way with words and is able to keep the reader easily engulfed within this suspenseful tale of deceit and betrayal. Samantha Khouri, an attorney trying to do right by her client, quickly finds herself in the middle of a cat and mouse chase as she attempts to return a lottery ticket, worth $415 million, to the rightful owner. Unbeknownst to Samantha, and those she comes into contact with, her life is in danger simply because she holds the key to a vast fortune.

I highly enjoyed this novel. Kazzie has created suspense at every turn in this riveting story and I could not put it down! The lives of many are intertwined as the ticket literally changes hands multiple times, through both honesty and deceit. There were so many twists and turns within the novel, yet it was easy to follow as Kazzie keeps the reader extremely well informed; the ending left me reeling as it all came together. This is an amazing debut novel and I hope that we will be seeing much more by this author. Five stars.

Legal thriller meets the thunder dome, this fast-paced read manages to captivate with slaughter and twisted intrigue while also aptly skewering big firm lawyers generally and certain Southern old money sensibilities specifically. Kazzie does it all with snap, crackle, pop dialogue and smart ass charm. Then he adds a certain snatched-from-the-headlines homegrown terrorism thread to boot. If you like John Grisham but thought his books a little light on apocalypse-style gore and/or interesting ethnic slant, why then this is the book for you. Big big fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting, January 29, 2012

This was one of THE BEST books I have read in awhile. I almost passed it up after reading one of the "one star" reviews that sighted excessive profanity. What a lies. VERY LITTLE profanity. Exciting with lts of twists and turns. One could identify with all the characters. Each one was described in such depth and they were so integral to the story.

Hang on tight and grab your blood-pressure medicine! Reading this book is like being strapped into a race car in which the driver refuses to stop going 200 mph and taking corners without braking. With a likable but human protagonist, crackling dialogue, and some genuinely funny moments, this story of a winning lottery ticket will grab you in the first chapter and refuse to let you put it down. Kudos to David Kazzie on a well-plotted story. Books like this make me want to read another one by the same author - so get cracking, Mr. Kazzie! I anxiously await your next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Favorite!, July 2, 2011
This review is from: The Jackpot (Kindle Edition)
Jackpot is definitely a different kind of legal thriller. You've probably seen David's You Tube hits So You Want To Go To Law School and So You Want To Write A Novel but until you've read his debut novel you can't fully appreciate his flair for dark humor.

Julius buys the $415 million winning ticket in SuperLotto. He's so dumbfounded by his good fortune he's not sure what to do next so he seeks out the advice of attorney Samantha Khouri.

Samantha has had what might be called a bad day; she was passed over for partnership at her law firm, faced dinner at her parents' where her mother invited the `perfect man' for her and now she is being pursued by a Darwinian psychopath.

What a way to spend the Christmas holiday!

David Kazzie is a lawyer in Virginia where he writes fiction in his spare time. Some of the most absurd stories I've ever heard came from law cases...is this how David Kazzie honed his fiction and dialogue skills?

The fast-pace and rich details of this thriller combined with the entertaining and crisp dialogue of Jackpot make this novel and David Kazzie a new favorite.

The quick dialogue, evolution through scenes and characters, and feeling of "so now what will happen," makes this one of those books that just takes you along for a fun ride. I didn't anticipate quite how it ended, which made it more fun for me. Looking forward to another adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, June 18, 2011
This review is from: The Jackpot (Kindle Edition)
Definitely a fun read, kept me going even despite the fact I generally don't like reading things electronically (prefer to hold a book, for instance). Kazzie keeps the reader interested, always wondering what's going to be on the next page. Certainly worth the read, I look forward to more in the future

You want funny?! You want misfits? You want an 'it just can't get worse than this' Donald Maass catastrophe sequence? Then Voila! Here. It. Is! What we've all been waiting for!

For anyone who has EVER dreamed of winning the lottery - but hasn't - this is the funniest 'you-won't-fix-dinner' or 'feed-the-grandchildren' Book that money can buy.

Add 'The Jackpot' to your literary collection!

Keep your eye on Kazzie. He's going places.
