Neil Diamond is one of my all time favorite singers. I think it was a great gift for him to put himself out there to do this movie. However, this movie is enjoyable in its own right. It has a sweet but fairly realistic love story. It portrays a young man struggling to define himself between the expectations of his culture and who he yearns and feels driven to be. Then there is the soundtrack! Mr Diamond has some of his best work presented here. I don't remember how many of them made the top of the charts, but several did. I also gave up counting how many times I saw this movie while it was still in the theaters. It's a great pleasure to add it to my personal library.

A good movie for Neal Diamond fans.. Also co staring Lucy Arnez. Excellent Neal Diamond song and lyrics. Strory line is very shallow. Boy marries girl. Girl wants boy to be something else. Good by girl and hello Lucy. Great classic Neal Diamond!

If you've ever seen Neil Diamond in concert, you'll love this movie. If you've NEVER seen him in concert, this is as close as you'll be able to come now. I've seen him probably 1/2 dozen times and this movie was wonderfully close to a love concert. Who knew the man could act. And Lucie Arnez is absolutely believable in her roll. It's a wonderfully enjoyable movie worth owning in your library.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. I am a huge Neil Diamond fan, and have seen him in concert at least five times! The movie is happy, sad, and about love. If you haven't seen it, it's a must watch.

I enjoyed this movie when it first came out and still enjoy it. Luci Arnez does a bang-up job; she's a good actress who should continue her career. Lawrence Olivier is not to be missed; hard to believe he's not a Jewish cantor.

From the reviews I had read in the past Neil couldn't act.I thought that is what I would find in this movie. What I found was just the reverse. Very untrue.. In my opinion, Neil was more authentic and less artificial then Elvis in the movies he made. Now don't throw darts at me , I know how fans can be. Apparently Neil has talent in more then just singing. At least when he spoke it sounded real. Kudos to you Neil. I really liked the movie. Even though it is a bit dated, am going to view it again.
That's what being American can do for you :0).

Love you Neil

I loved the movie and would have liked a DVD copy but none are available. So a download it is. My original was a video that I gave away thinking I could get a DVD, but who uses videos anymore? Neil did a fine job in his part, but the female lead should have been someone else - anyone else.

Neil Diamond is a gem - this is a great story with fabulous music - a good look into tradition and ambition clashing when conservative culture is so rigid...
Everyone should watch it, be educated and entertained.
The only dated thing about it are the clothes and cars - the film is relevant!
