Editorial Reviews

Based on Philip Yancey's Gold Medallion Book of the Year on the life of Christ, The Jesus I Never Knew is a six-session small group Bible study in which Yancey uses film portraits of Jesus and contrasts them with the Jesus of the Bible. The Jesus I Never Knew gives you fresh, uncluttered perspectives on history's central figure---his radical claims, his challenging teachings, and his effect on others . . . including you. This remarkable experience will spark discussion, interaction, application, and growth. Together, you'll share life-changing discoveries about God, the Bible, and yourself. Best of all, you'll come face-to-face with the most compelling, creative, challenging, fearless, unpredictable, and ultimately satisfying person anyone can know: Jesus Christ. This DVD is designed for use with the companion Participant Guide DVD (sold separately). Sessions include:1. The Jesus We Thought We Knew 2. The Teachings of Jesus 3. The Revolutionary Grace of Jesus 4. The Miracles of Jesus 5. The Death of Jesus 6. The Resurrection, Ascension and Ongoing Presence of Jesus.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the prior version October 21, 2009

I bought this DVD to replace the one I had before (and which was lost in a church library), about 8-10 years ago. The older version had a chapter that corresponded with each chapter in the book, but this revised version had condensed DVD chapters that grouped book chapters, which made it much less useful for my purpose, which was to support a chapter-by-chapter discussion of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharing this! December 31, 2012

I got this preparing to preach a series on Christ. Turns out our church is starting three new small groups using this as one of many studies that will happen thus year.

The church in America gets so far off base trying to turn Jesus into an American, Anglo Savior. It was refreshing to learn about Jesus from the context of a first century Israeli. The gospel makes much more sense with that starting point.

Thanks Phillip Yancey for a well written book that I had to share with friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Informative Book! February 11, 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This bk is really interesting and informative about Jesus, as a Jewish man, and things he had to go thru, because of this. We did a bible study with this bk, and we all came away feeling closer to Jesus and knowing Him better!
