Using the historical context of the book of Acts, the author shows the reader the hows and whys of the apostles' actions. This book is easy to use, and perfect for personal or individual study. At the end of each chapter are discusson questions.

The Jesus Revolution is a study covering the earliest Christian experience as told by Luke in the book of Acts. From Jesus' ascension to Paul's imprisonment in Rome, we see the challenges and joys of the fledgling Christians. I plan to use this book with my adult Sunday School class; it would also be quite suitable for Bible study groups or for individual Christians wanting to learn more about the Bible, the early church, and the challenges we all still face as Christians.

Jesus called his followers to a radically different way of living - one of love instead of hate, salvation instead of condemnation, forgiveness instead of revenge - according to Leith Anderson in this book. The book of Acts provides a succinct description of how the first disciples went about this new way of living during the early days of the faith, enabling present-day Christians to discover the roots of their own beliefs and behaviour.

The author's book takes the reader through the pages of the book of Acts, inviting the reader to respond to Jesus's call to live out God's will on earth. Interesting observations include:

* The early believers shared their possessions and gave to anyone in need as a spontaneous Spirit-driven expression of the desire to care for each other.
* Joy is contagious, just like misery and criticism.
* When we commit our lives to Jesus, we experience "times of refreshing".
* Peter and John engaged in civil disobedience when ordered not to preach; this complicates the question of whether Christians should always obey the law.
* When persecuted, the early Christians prayed not to escape trouble but for boldness to speak despite the intimidation.
* The early church was open to new approaches, experimentation and risks, willing to accomplish God's purpose in a new way, using a combination of spirituality and common sense.
* As in the case of Saul, God takes time to get us ready for what he calls us to do.
* Acts 15 describes what happened when a group of critics showed up to argue that the church was teaching a watered-down theology.
* The message of the book of Acts is directed to us, as a challenge to continue the growth of the church.

The Jesus Revolution is an in depth study of the lives of Paul & the disciples post Pentecost. I have learned more about the early church, it's geography & history as well as the social challenges faced by this bold team of Jesus followers in that day. The relevance of the book of Acts has been brought into the 21st century for me. This book has taught me more about who we are called to be as a church today than any other. A must read for anyone serious about their Christan walk.

I would strongly suggest reading the book as a bible study, reading the scripture passages for each chapter first then the chapter itself. In this manner you will be fully informed and comforted by the scriptures and Leith Anderson's words. I enjoyed this book immensely as I was able to journal and highlight passages as I went along, making it a deep study of some of the details in the life of Paul. The bible is never old news and we are always learning new truths each time we read it with prayerful hearts and open minds. Leith Anderson makes it fresh and new for the reader with unique insights and comforting truths about our Lord and Savior. I'll be looking for more of his works in the future.

A good piece of reference material for my Kindle reader and bible reference material. Would recommend it to anyone willing to take the time to study the operation of the first century church of Christ.
