I've been a Hendrix fan for over 30 years, since my older sister gave me Band of Gypsies, my first LP. As a teenager, I built a vinyl collection of over 30 domestics, imports and bootlegs, trying to find any alternate take or live track available. As anyone who has gone this route knows, there were plenty of scams / duds promising far more than delivered, with either very poor recording quality or uninspired performances.......this is not one of them. WITHOUT QUESTION, THIS IS THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION OF LIVE MATERIAL; the sound quality is superb, and the playing is incredibly unique. "The Jimi Hendrix Concerts" features 12 songs, including 6 tracks from the 3 day Winterland series, as well as Albert Hall (2) , Berkeley, New York Pop, San Diego and the LA Forum. Red House is stunning......you will listen to it over and over. Stone Free features an extended jam with Jimi throwing in flamenco licks. For those of us who appreciate Jimi's love of the blues, there are wonderful versions of Hear My Train, Bleeding Heart and Hey Joe, in addition to Red House. Are You Experienced is as psychedelic as could be hoped for, yet clean. An unexpected inclusion is the tranquil Little Wing. The only thing missing is Purple Haze. Unfortunately, the CD of this album is now difficult to find, probably due to legal issues between Alan Douglas and Jimi's estate. I agree with another reviewer......Grab this if you can find it! You will end up burning copies for all of your friends!

I like this album a LOT !....Long before the Hendrix family won rights to Jimi's discography , Alan Douglas [ producer ] was releasing HIS Hendrix albums.......This c.d. is a compilation of various dates and all trax are stitched together for one seemless 'concert'.The sound quality and editing are both surprisingly good ! There are a few killer renditions from rare [ not yet offically released ] shows....'Stone Free' is a REAL barn burner and well worth the price in itself!.....This disk is out of print , but if you stumble across it at your local used c.d. store then pick it up...you won't be dissapointed !

My favorite track from this collection is "Are You Experienced?" The only flaw on it was when he flubbed the words of the last verse. Hendrix probably forgot it because he'd just finished playing a guitar solo that could have destroyed the whole world.

In early 1992,I walked into a local stereo dealer`s showroom looking to by a pair of speakers and asked to hear the Klipsch Heresys.I handed the salesman a cd of this album and asked him to play song 5 and give it some volume which he did, gladly.I sat on the couch and listened to the incredible version of Are You Experienced with goosebumps running up and down my arms with my eyes closed and went on the sonic journey that I still feel is one of the best live cuts I`ve ever heard from Jimi Hendrix.
After it was over I opened my eyes and saw the salesman staring at me with a smile on his face.He asked me if the speakers were what I wanted and I answered yes.Seventeen years later listening to those same speakers playing the same song it happens all over again and it is fantastic. For what its worth, this collection of live cuts fashioned to resemble a Jimi Hendrix concert are probally the best performed and recorded songs I have ever heard and I`ve heard alot.
And please, don`t just buy it for the hits but for the lesser known songs as well. The last song,a great version of Hear My Train A Comin, is definitive.A great disc for even the most casual fan and essential for any Hendrix freak.Gone but not forgotten, this is Jimi Hendrix at his best.

This was the first "real" full Hendrix album that I received as a gift for my birthday on vinyl when it came out. Although I was really young when Jimi passed away, I could almost picture myself in the audience at Bill Graham's Winterland, or the San Diego Sports Arena, or the other venues where Jimi was recorded. I know that a lot of "critics" have said that this was a "poor attempt at creating a Jimi Hendrix concert listening experience with the canned audience and all.." but that is a load. Even for the casual fan, this is some of Jimi's best recorded live music. Listen to the in between song rap and you are transported back to 1969. The police radio coming through on Hey Joe and Jimi's feedback make this MY favorite version recorded at Berkley, the second set of the night. I just wish that they had filmed THIS set! Also, Little Wing sounds INCREDIBLE! In my opinion, this is a 10+ on the rating scale. You cannot go wrong with this. I paid a rather large sum for this release on CD as my vinyl album that I still have has some pops and other blemishes. This way, I have the flawless CD version too.

If you truly want to know the Blues-influenced Jimi Hendrix, then you must buy this album. This is raw Hendrix at its very best. I bought the 11 track cassette in 1982 and wore it out.

I bought another cassette and wore it out. My third cassette is getting tired so I bought the 1989 CD version, which also includes a 12th track of Foxey Lady. "Stone-free" is beautifully relentless Hendrix. "Hear My Train a Coming" on this album is Hendrix's best live cut. "I Don't Live Today" has sensationally crazy intentional feedback. And listen to the Humpback Whales at the beginning of "Are You Experienced".

Every track on the Album makes you feel that Jimi was playing his A-game. MUST BUY !!!!!!!!!!!
