"The Job" read remarkably well, and as I got into it, around the middle of the book, I started to feel where it was going, and began to have a sense of how the presence of Eric's Grandfather continued to linger, affecting his life.
The symbolism of the ladder started to take shape, and in the last few paragraphs of the book, it suddenly came in on me what the book was all about.
I thought of my father-in-law, my father, my mother, and my grandfather --all gone--but who are somehow still with me every day. I understood, and I cried.
"The Job" is a remarkably well-constructed piece of art. It captures something we all feel, but don't talk about much. About how every day of our lives we are visited with the specters of people we loved and the things they did and said that continue to guide us.
"The Job" reminded me of Kushner's classic, "When Bad Things Happen to Good People", for as Kushner said, "It's peoples' memories that give us immortality."
I have seen a number of people buying one, then several more copies of this book. I understand-- because "The Job" is one of those extraordinary books you will want to give to someone you love to share what it means.

The Job is a very empowering book. It illustrates the significance of relationships changing through death, not ending.

"The job" by Eric Whitfield, is a heart warming journey, through Eric's eyes, about the great love between a child and his Grandfather.
If you have ever lost anyone you love......you must read this book! It brings hope, and serenity to your soul and the peace of knowing that loved ones that have left us, are really never to far away. Good job, Eric!

Eric's story had an immensely effective insight into his past, present, and future. The moment I picked up the book and started reading I did not put it down until I was finished.
This very spiritual and poignant story had an ironic parallel to my own relationship with my grandfather and father who have since passed on but will be remembered dearly.
This book has helped me remember them in more ways than one.
Read it and be inspired...

Eric Whitfield displays moving talent in his first novel. He paints pictures with words that stir memories and validate feelings. "The Job" is a delight-- especially in the wake of sad happenings in our nation. This holiday season is one that is finding many people in need of personal hope and comfort. This story offers just that. It is a story of grief. It is a story of love and inspiration. Thank you, Mr. Whitfield.

Eric was indeed able to capture our "life with father." Dad's talent was to find in each of us that which is so special, and to help us realize that gift in ourselves.

WOW!!! IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I'VE FELT SUCH MAGIC FROM A BOOK. "THE JOB" GAVE ME BACK A SENSE OF FAITH AND HOPE THAT I'VE SOMEHOW LOST ALONG THE LONG ROAD WE CALL LIFE. THIS IS SO PERFECT FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON COMING UP!! "THE JOB" REMINDS ME SOMEWHAT OF "THE CHRISTMAS BOX". THIS IS A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!

Describing the Indescribable

Eric does an incredible job of describing the indescribable thoughts and feelings we have inside us. His sharing of how one has an inner voice and how it's difficult to understand it, let alone listen to it, helped me reflect the same experiences I've had. And gave me direction on how to process the inner voice that I have.

The story also provides a great story of a young man's growth into understanding where his place is, which to me, is right where we're suppose to be. It's also a great tool to trigger fond memories I have of my Grandfather and truly reminds me of the blessings I've had with a relationship with my Grandfather.

A Super Feel Good Read.
