Book Description

October 1, 2008

Lunch is reserved for meetings, technology makes us available anytime, anywhere-and somewhere along the way 9-to-5 morphed into 24/7, and technology makes us available anytime, anywhere. Our demanding schedules crowd out what matters most: family, friends, even our faith. Although it may feel like you're living under the Big Top, take heart. The Juggling Act shares Pat's time-tested wisdom for keeping your life in perspective. This updated and expanded revision (formerly Balancing Your Family, Faith & Work) details the guidelines for balanced living, with insights on:

  • Prioritizing your work, family, and God
  • Developing a personal mission statement
  • Becoming an effective employee
  • Creating a support system
  • Sharing your faith in the workplace

Take a meeting with The Juggling Act. And get your professional-and personal-life on the fast track to success.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have to know what you want to get what you want. November 18, 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
To get what you want in life, know what you want and admit it to yourself. Gelsinger balances priorities, but first you must define the priorities that are important to you. Work, family, religion (Christian practices for him) have to be put into perspective with a constantly reevaluated self assessment. For people who think it is aggressive and unattractive to recognize ambition, it is better to do some self searching to define goals and the values of their individual lives. Gelsinger offers a practical way of self evaluation which should help everyone to achieve more of what they want from their lives. There are no compromises but a balancing of priorities. The one commodity everyone has equally but may not manage is time. And time well spent with family, work, and God is what this is about. This is a truly great book and a guide to a more effective life experience

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal January 4, 2009
Format:Paperback
I have had the privilege of working in a Christian college environment for more than 40 years. Like any educational institution, much of the time is devoted to research, the dissemination of rems of information, and the debate of different perspectives on most of life's issues. The refreshing power of Dr. Gelsingers book is that it is extremely practical! It takes the great values of life and Biblical truth and shows how these can work in a marriage, ministry, and in a vocation...his own! It is not that he lacks in the intellectual area, he is obviously a genius as demonstrated by his current and previous roles at Intel, and his graduate education at Santa Clara and Stanford Universities. But rather, he demonstrates that brilliance is most helpful and needed in living out what we say we believe in order to achieve our highest potential.

The Afterword by his wife Linda, is worth the price of the book, for she relates in down to earth fashion life with Pat from her perspective. It is transparent, real, and leaves you with the sense that here is a couple who are extremely busy and yet they know how to set goals, work within them, and make allowances for their differences.

I have known Pat & Linda for more than 25 years, having performed their wedding ceremony. I have had frequent contact with them through the years, as Pat has served on our William Jessup University Board and Foundation, two of their children have attended our University, and they have been wonderful mentorees and mentors in our relationship through the years. They walk their talk...live lives of integrity...they are the Real Deal!
