More About the Author

Rick Riordan is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the Kane Chronicles, and the Heroes of Olympus. He is also the author of the multi-award-winning Tres Navarre mystery series for adults.

For fifteen years, Rick taught English and history at public and private middle schools in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Texas. In 2002, Saint Mary's Hall honored him with the school's first Master Teacher Award.

While teaching full time, Riordan began writing mystery novels for grownups. His Tres Navarre series went on to win the top three national awards in the mystery genre - the Edgar, the Anthony and the Shamus. Riordan turned to children's fiction when he started The Lightning Thief as a bedtime story for his oldest son.

Today over 35 million copies of his Percy Jackson, Kane Chronicles, and Heroes of Olympus books are in print in the United States, and rights have been sold into more than 35 countries. Rick is also the author of The 39 Clues: The Maze of Bones, another #1 New York Times bestseller.

Rick Riordan now writes full-time. He lives in Boston with his wife and two sons.

The Kane Chronicles is an excellent series by one of my favorite young adult authors. The Percy Jackson Series is one of my favorites of all time and although this one wasn't quite as good, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and rate it just as high because it was a little bit more unique in that it covered a topic that is less known compared to Greek Mythology. I knew very little about Egyptian mythology and this series really does an excellent job of introducing dozens of Egyptian gods throughout all three books and I did find it very interesting! The action, suspense, and twists were plentiful, as I expected from Riordan, and I did get sucked into the story. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a fun, fast-paced read who is interested in learning some new mythology!

I was surprised how long each book was. I picked it up to give us something to listen to on the 24 hours drive from FL to IA and back again. We didn't listen to it the whole time, but quite a bit. We only finished book 1 and got through part of book 2 on our trip. The book was great as my kids didn't fuss and fight when it was on.
We all loved the books, my 4 year old, 7 year old and two adults.
We have no complaints on issues playing.

Amazon can't seem to decide on the age range for this book. The paperback edition is listed as for age range 8 - 12 years, or grade level3 - 7. The hardcover page says it's for age range 10 and up, grades 5-9. I'd have to say it's the latter. My daughter is a big Rick Riordan fan. She's read all his published work. Since I've read nearly all the Percy Jackson books I assumed that the Egypt series would be along the same lines in terms of romance plots. I was wrong. Sadie, the younger sister, is boy crazy. She likes two boys and thinks about them a lot, she kisses one, calls them "hot" and thinks about boys' lips. This series is clearly not for 8 year olds. I might not have let my tween to read it if I'd known what she was in for.

That aside, we prefer the Percy Jackson series anyway. Those characters are engaging, and the stories are more interesting. This series is a little repetitive.

The two readers chosen for these audiobooks are excellent. They do a great job of voice acting the roles rather than simply reading the text. A great purchase and hours of enjoyment.

I have adored most of Rick Riordan's books and the Kane Chronicles are no exception. They are read superbly by the narrators. And MP3 CDs are a wonderful format for most devices. I just copied it over to my Android phone and it worked wonderfully!

I did my research and it was by far the cheapest and quality way to go directly with Amazon. :) It was 29$ or 30$ elsewhere. On here, I got it for 27$ with FREE SHIPPING! It was handled with care, packaged and shipped fast. You DO get posters! But they're like mini posters and the front and back of the two you get have characters on each side. I got Sadie, Carter, Horus, and Isis. Though, I'm not sure if it's different for everyone?

I read the whole TRILOGY right after I took off the plastic casing! I should've spanned my time out to read it... but I was anxious. Especially since I already read Rick's new addition to Percy Jackson series, "The Mark of Athena." Anyway, yes! I finished reading these books within 2 days and I ABSOLUTELY loved it! I want more, though. Ha-ha.

(There are spoilers, so don't read beyond this if you haven't read it yet!)

For Carter, I actually liked that the author gave him and his sister a bit of sibling jealousy and resentment--I know this all too well myself. Though, I found it nice that he didn't make it overdone with their "Why does he/she get everything and I don't!" sort of tiff. But he was a bit of a coward and lagged behind a lot in the beginning. I also enjoyed that both siblings were of different skin tones, that brought a whole new diversity of "Are you really related to your sister?" and always looked at Sadie like she's an alien for having lighter skin.

For Sadie, I loved that the author didn't make her into an annoying little girl NOR have that "I'm rich, so I'm a snob" sort of personality. I LOVE the fact that she lived in London and she talked British!

This was the only thing my son actually requested for Chanukah and he was thrilled to get it. I had to pull him away from the books, so he could finish his homework!

First let me say that normally, I am a big Rick Riordan fan. He creates stories that not only entertain, they teach about life and how it works. He makes "bad guy" characters that are believable and have enough depth that you want to save them. That being said, as I read some of the other reviews of this series I wondered, Did they even read the same book I read? Granted most of the characters in this series are great. Then there is Sadie, the little sister. At first, her sibling rivalry with her brother and her extreme self-centered behavior were cute - for about 10 pages. But her self-centered, total self-absorption quickly became both annoying and tiresome. As an example, even when she thinks her boyfriend is dying, her first thought is how that affects her. All through the book she says, (and I paraphrase) Oh I know that's selfish of me but..... She never learns and she never takes her attention off how the world revolves around her. In a world where healthy role-models for young women and girls are difficult to find, I find Sadie disgusting as a main "good" character. She is typical of all the things that are not healthy in a me-me-me society. I would not want any young woman to think this was a person to emulate. Normally Rick Riordan's bad guys leave you with the belief that there is still something there to redeem. Here was a supposed good character that had no redeeming qualities. I almost quit reading the series I disliked her so much. Poor role model for any young woman.
