Book Description

"I simply needed to know I was wanted," Kenny Loggins once said. This comes from a man who knew how much people loved him and adored his songs, from a man who has been probably more productive in his life than ninety nine percent of the population, from a man who lived his life discovering His Way, His Tao, and never stopped.
There's a lesson to be learned here, the lesson that the great thinkers of the ages, from Laozi (Lao Tzu), Buddha and Christ, to "enlightened" era philosophers like Kant, Hegel and Schopenhauer, to the modern spiritual leaders and thinkers of our age have been pondering and yet still did not have the answer to - "Can A Man Reach Perfection, the Spirit, the Divine, if you will?"
Or perhaps there's no need to actually reach perfection and it is indeed the Way, the Tao that is our lives that matters the most? Are we drifting aimlessly in a sea of change or are we looking for a beacon to guide us?
For Kenny Loggins, that connection to the spiritual has always been his ability to, as he put it, " Stop and listen to the song playing in my head." This for him was the light, the love, the sense of Interconnectedness of the world as a whole and his songs are the records of what the Spirit imparted to him when he would allow himself to listen.
For the man who was so connected to his inner self and to the spiritual around him, Kenny Loggins to this day is still discovering his Tao and that idea of never stopping to "listen to the songs that are playing in our heads," is, perhaps, his greatest gift to us.
I hope you will embark on this journey with Kenny Loggins and me and we will all emerge wiser, better, and filled with the Love that is easy to find if we just stop and listen.

The Tao of Kenny Loggins is a study into the heart, mind, and soul of a man who has been on a quest his entire life to discover the meaning of life through love and to find a sense of everlasting belonging. If you have felt a need to connect to something greater than yourself ... a longing to find meaning to life ... a yearning to discover true love ... a hunger to have your heart and soul touched by that Divine love that brings comfort to life ... a passionate desire to have a closer relationship with the one that you're meant to be with, then this book is for you. By studying his journey, you too will find the inspiration and motivation to start on your own journey to find that love and serenity.

For those who are familiar with the music of Kenny Loggins will instantly recognize the deep spiritual essence that is within his music. The Tao of Kenny Loggins is a collection of song verses, excerpts from interviews, letters, journals, and comments made on stage. It is constructed in a similar manner as Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching. The emphases of this collection is to demonstrate the spiritual essence of love, of the innerconnectiveness of people, and the Divine Spirit that transcends life as we know it.
To quote Kenny Loggins on the significance of these thoughts to him, here are his words, "My words come from my experience. They are my truth and as such are authentic. Love is Magic, because it is outside the mind's ability to comprehend, deny, or take credit for, and because of that, the mind must let go even to experience it."

5.0 out of 5 stars Is Kenny Loggins a musical guru? January 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have been a student of the Tao for over 20 years. I have heard the Kenny Loggins songs played on the radio over and over. I never realized until reading this wonderful book how closely Kenny Loggins let the Tao come through his music. Waller brings a sense of newness to lyrics people have loved for years. Many musicians will attest that their lyrics come from their soul, but as Waller points out, Loggins' music carries with it a great sense of spiritual awareness. Song writers often try to convey a sense of the spiritual through lyrics, but it is difficult to do so with honesty and without seeming too pretentious. Keeping with the connectedness of the Tao, it was only by Waller's spiritual awareness that he could have been able to discern the spiritual depth of Loggins' lyrics that most other people take on a superficial level. A very interesting insertion in this book is where Waller compiled Loggins' lyrics into a collection that he has divided into chapters corresponding to the Tao Te Ching, calling the collection The Tao of Kenny Loggins. Waller brings creativity and insight into a part of mainstream culture that has heretofore gone unnoticed. I will never listen to a Kenny Loggins song the same way again and I am glad that I now have another dimension to my personal, spiritual journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Profoundly poignant and inspirational January 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had developed a fascination with the eastern philosophies and teachings, as I was at a crossroads and had been searching for something deeper and more meaningful in life. This is why I found myself searching this topic on kindle in the first place. I came across Dennis Waller's inspirational works - the translations of Hsin Hsin Ming and Nagarjunas Tree of Wisdom, and this too has been equally as inspirational. I hadn't heard of Kenny Loggins before reading this, but now I am hooked. I have now heard some of his music and really feel I can connect with it on a deeper level, and I really feel as though I "get" it, which is a wonderful feeling.

The 81 versus of The Tao of Kenny Loggins chapter are simply awe-inspiring, and the Love Story at the end really epitomizes what it's all about at its core. "An essay on the importance of Tao" explains the true meanings of Love, Truth, Equanimity and Innerconnectiveness of Life. The story "You Reap What You Sow" is profoundly poignant.

The perspectives of George Carlin (in the first chapter) are so very insightful, every one of them. So many people these days are disenfranchised with life. We are so busy scurrying around, stressed out of our minds, making a lot of noise and trying so hard, but not really achieving anything. Our values are meaningless, selfish and petty (all aimed at satisfying our egos), and we look at things the wrong way around. We just can't see the wood for the trees.

Certainly, this type of philosophy on life is not for everybody, but the more people who share and practice this philosophy, the better, brighter and fuller the world will be for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another inspirational book from Dennis Waller !! January 6, 2013

I stumbled upon this book since i have enjoyed other books by Dennis Waller .This book is another great work from Dennis Waller.

I recently enjoyed a quote "If you want to know, who are you?.Just take the average of the people you are associated with" so i am trying to associate with great people who lived in the earth and what is the best way to do that? It is to study these people who tried to spread great teaching and messages across the globe.

I also read several other books of Dennis Waller like Nagarjuna's Tree of Wisdom A Translation and enjoyed it.

I highly recommend this book to all readers liking this genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars A SOLID 4-stars and Great Read December 29, 2012

I bought this book because I am very familiar with the author Dennis Waller and love everything he writes and this book is no exception. I am very much into music and was very impressed to see that Mr. Waller has revealed the Tao in Kenny Loggins music. It is truly amazing how we all can learn from the lyrics in music as most people only hear a great song or toe tapping tunes. Once you read this book you will see that it's not, as the author put it quite comically..."some kind of hippy, tie-dye, pot smoking, tree hugging, new age crack pot crap". (I love the humor). Worth the read, I'm glad I got a copy.

More About the Author

Dennis Waller, best selling author, film maker and speaker, is recognized as an authority on Buddhism, Zen and the Tao Te Ching. His translation of the Tao has been a long standing best seller and is used throughout the academic world. He is only the second person to translate Nagarjuna's Tree of Wisdom into English since WL Campbell's translation in 1919.

He also is known for his series of "Texas Jack's Famous Recipe books, a collection of southern recipes that have been #1 best sellers on Amazon. From pralines, caramels, to making your own hard apple cider, the Texas Jack series has built up a strong and loyal following.

His current project, "In Search of The Kushtaka" released in April 2014 is a book offering different points of view from supporters and critics of the mythical creature, the Kushtaka, of the Tlingit People of Alaska. Covering the Tlingit and comparative mythologies along with thoughts from the science community and first hand accounts of encounters with the Kushtaka, this book gives an enlightening look into the phenomena known as the Kushtaka.

In addition to the Kushtaka book, he has followed up with two more books on the myths of the Tlingit called, "Raven Tales" and "Otter Tales." Working with the legendary artist of Native American Art, Bob Patterson, Waller will be bringing out an illustrated guide to the world of the myths and legends of the Tlingit in late 2014.

His other books, "The Tao of Kenny Loggins" and "Are You an Indigo" show that this is one writer that refuses to be place into anyone category, truly a renaissance man. Waller is a man that can serve up a wicked drink along with a great steak while debating the esoteric meaning of the song, "Watching the River Run."
