"Fun, fast and sexy."
--Lori Foster, New York Times bestselling author on Knock Me off My Feet

From the Back Cover

Playing by the rules has left Samantha Monroe with an AWOL ex-husband, maxed out credit cards, and the task of raising three children on a hairstylist's salary. It's time for a new game plan. When Sam learns that politician Jack Tolliver needs someone to play the part of his fiancée for six months in return for a generous paycheck, she's ready to sign up on the spot.

Jack needs Sam and her kids to help tone down his image from womanizing cad to dependable dad. But he was expecting Sam to be a frumpy single mom, not a wickedly smart, sexy redhead. Keeping nosey newshounds from discovering that his engagement is a charade is going to be a tough job, but one mind-blowing kiss from Sam and suddenly Jack is ready to put in all the overtime necessary…

Now, with scheming opponents itching to bring Jack down, Sam's ex returning to stir up trouble, one stubborn pre-schooler, two squabbling teenagers, a crazy dog, and some out-of-this-world sex, Jack and Sam are discovering that playing make-believe can be complicated--but not nearly as much as falling in love…

Sam is a harried single mother of three. Her ex declared he was gay and skipped out before her youngest was even born, and has never paid child support. At a girl's night out, she gets a little tipsy and admits she would not mind being a "kept woman" to a wealthy man. One of her friends is the campaign manager for Jack, a womanizing politician in need of an image makeover since the last time her ran for office and made sexist remarks that lost him the female vote. She proposes that he pretend to be engaged to Sam to soften his image when he runs for the US Senate. Sam balks at first, then when she realizes how much she could gain financially as a result, she decides to do it for her children.

The press eats up the relationship between the two, which almost immediately turns physical. But Jack's former lover Christy is a journalist who will do anything to discredit the relationship to secure a better media job. As she schemes to locate the long lost husband to get Sam to admit the truth of the relationship, Sam and Jack are finding themselves falling for each other and wanting to stay together after the primary. Will Christy's scheming be successful?

As always, Donovan infuses her story with great bantering dialogue and lots of sensuality. Yes, the plot is recylced, but Donovan's skill with a written word makes this one a winner. The pair oozes sex appeal off every page, and make for one fun ride to the finish!

Samantha Monroe is a single mother of three who would do just about anything to improve her life. Her ex-husband has left her because he has had a change of heart regarding his sexual orientation, he has skipped on his child support payments...and the money she makes as a hair dresser is good but not fantastic. What she really wants to do is paint and take care of her children. Being a kept woman wouldn't be that bad right??? To bad she states her opinion on a girl's night out...and one of her friends thinks she has a point...and a guy who would politically benefit from pretending to be engaged. Crazy right? You have no idea!

Jack Tolliver is a playboy and his reputation is well earned. It's also a reputation that is not going to earn him his states newly opened senatorial seat. So he enters into a contract with Sam. She is everything he normally avoids, down to earth, sweet, mother...the list goes on. So why on earth is the only things he can think of is what her mouth is going to taste like and the possibility of actually dating her for real once their association is over? He is in so much trouble...because the idea of playing dad and husband in real life is not so scary anymore.

This was a fun romance a la Susan Donovan. Jack and Sam are sexy but likeable characters that will entertain the reader from the very first page. The conflict she has created between these two are very real and at the same time highly not an easy fix. Secondary characters are important to the story and are fine additions to this story. Readers will feel truly connected to the story and will be cheering for the happy ending and the comeuppance of the bad gal. Ms. Donovan is a fine addition to the contemporary romance genre offering laughs, romance, and good storylines.

Samantha Monroe is a hairstylist and struggling mother of three. On the last Friday of every month, she and several of her friends all get together for what they call Drinks & Depression Nights. Its one night where they can complain about love, life, work and laugh while letting go of their problems while in the company of friends. On this night, after too many drinks, Samantha tells her friends that she doesn't think there is anything wrong with being a kept woman, which sparked an idea in her friend Kara DeMarinis mind.

Jack Tolliver is gearing up to run for the Senate and his campaign manager, Kara knows that he needs to tone down his image of being a player if they have any hope of him getting elected. Her idea is for Jack and Samantha to have a pretend romance and engagement for six months leading up to the election. In return for her part, Samantha will receive a generous check that would give her a chance to take off work and spend more time with her children.

While Jack and Samantha are trying to play their part for the media, they learn that they have more in common then they originally thought and things start heating up very quickly. Can Jack and Samantha keep their acting and true feelings separate?

The Kept Woman is a sexy treat that will have readers hanging on to every word. This story has passion, humor, and engaging characters, everything a great book needs. The fast pace and witty banter in this story makes it easy for a reader to get caught up in the lives and world the author has created. The secondary characters in this story are abundant and play a pivotal role in the overall feel of this book. Susan Donovan is a talented writer that is sure to shoot to the top with her entertaining, sassy stories, and easygoing style of writing. If you're looking for the perfect summer read then you'll want to pick up The Kept Woman.

Format: Mass Market Paperback
Three years ago Mitchell abandoned his wife and three children leaving Samantha Monroe to raise their kids by herself on her hair styling salary. The latest torment comes from the Wee Ones Academy that threatens to expel her son from the school because he has some toilet issues. Thus at the monthly Drinks and Depression Nights with her friends, two margaritas and a zillion frustrations lead to Sam saying she is ready to become a kept woman if that will help her kids.

Sam's rant gives political handler and D&D card carrier Kara DeMarinis an out of the universe idea to help her playboy client Jack Tolliver overcome his hedonistic image while running for Senator from the red state Indiana. Jack will become engaged to Sam, who surprises everyone including herself by agreeing to perform as she obtains security for her kids. As Sam and Jack pretend to be in love, they fall in love while offensive TV reporter Christy Schoen seeks to expose their relationship as a ruse.

THE KEPT WOMAN is a lighthearted contemporary romantic romp that pokes fun at the marriage of convenience theme and even deeper jabs at the serious sound bites and crisis image management spins that are the cornerstones of the American political system. Combining the two, fans obtain a facetious glimpse at how far image making has gone (sort of a romantic version of Eric Dezenhall's JACKIE DISASTER).
