Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (born 1831 as Helena von Hahn; died in 1891), was a Russian occultist who, with William Quan Judge, founded the Theosophical Society. She wrote other books such as Isis Unveiled: A Master Key to the Mysteries of Ancient and Modern Science and Technology Volume I. - Science, The Secret Doctrine - Volume I, Cosmogenesis, The Key to Theosophy, The Voice Of The Silence Being Fragment from the 'Book Of The Golden Percepts', etc.

She wrote in the Preface to this 1889 book, "The purpose of this book... needs but few words of explanation. It is not a complete or exhaustive text-book or Theosophy, but only a key to unlock the door that leads to deeper study. It traces the broad outlines of the Wisdom Religion, and explains its fundamental principles; meeting, at the same time, the various objections raised by the average Western enquirer... The need for such an exposition has long been felt among those interested in the Theosopohical Society and its work, and it is hoped that it will supply information... to many whose attention has been awakened, but who, as yet, are merely puzzled and not convinced."

She states, "We hold to no religion, as to no philosophy in particular: we cull the good we find in each.

This is a great book that I am studying in a study group. This particular printing,
ISBN-10: 1484839404,
ISBN-13: 978-1484839409,
the blue cover w/ the Mandala, is not a good printing. It has ONLY the main text of the book; No cover page, no copyright page, no table of contents, no glossary, no index, nothing.

Well written to provide insight to Theosophy. They didn't sell me on their conclusions however, to late for Madame B to return to meditation in former body, but hopefully she will return to deeper meditation and greater clarity in the next life.

This is a book recommended to me by a Theosophist friend as a way of getting acquainted with both Blavatsky and with the general aims and practices of the Theosophical Society. The question-and-answer format will be helpful and the reader should find much that is useful in arriving at an apprehension of what Theosophy is really about.

Be aware that Theosophy has endured some schisms since Blavatsky's demise, with (as I understand it), some organizations emphasizing occultism and Magick; and others being a bit more philosophical and mystical.
