I was a little disappointed in this one. It is billed as real life success stories of kickstarter entrepreneurs, but it's more like a how to use kick starter for dummies. There are some stories of real kick starter users, but they're aren't really fleshed out and it's the same few stories used over and over again as examples of how to use the different set up portions of kickstarter. There is some good information on how to use kickstarter, but it's pretty much the same as the free information you can get online about it. I would have appreciated it actually being lengthy stories of kickstarter enrepreneurs so I could see how the most sucessful ones did it.

This is a Kickstarter primer . . . if you have already run a campaign or read much at all about the process, you won't need it. For the rest of us, there are some real gems here that are worth considering. If you have never run a Kickstarter campaign, get this book before you do.

I love the advice on the rewards in particular. How low should you go? How high should you go? What kind of incentives work? Where should your best "value" reward be priced at?

Recommended.

Crowdfunding is not just about making money. Crowdfunding is about connecting with your audience. The "money" part comes AFTER you succeed with the "connecting" part. This is the best lesson from this book. It explains all the steps necessary in order to run a successful crowdfunding campaign.

The book has lots of examples that show all the care and the right strategies that work. Crowdfunding is not the ultimate thing that will change the financing of your projects. But will help you to get closer to the best results.

I found this book to be very, very valuable because it explains very clearly all the pros and cons of crowdfunding - and the many options and decisions you'll have to make in order to get a successful campaign at Kickstarter. The book will show you how to calculate the funding you need, how to design your list of rewards, how to manage the progression of your campaign and all the tools Kickstarter puts before you.

Because Kickstarter is the best, most successful AND most demanding crowdfunding platform, this book is a great introduction to the VERY LABORIOUS AND INTENSE world of crowdfunding.

RECOMMENDED!

"The Kickstarter Handbook: Real-Life Success Stories of Artists, Inventors, and Entrepreneurs" by Don Steinberg is a very good book for anyone wanting to know more about raising funds through Kickstarter, the "crowdfunding" site that was launched in 2009 and since then has helped people raise a phenomenal amount of money for a variety of creative projects. If you are thinking about starting a Kickstarter campaign, read this book to improve your chances of success.

The book contains an introduction that describes what Kickstarter is and how it got started. Then it provides advice on a variety of elements of your successful Kickstarter campaign. The information is illustrated with real life case studies of people who have used Kickstarter to fund projects.

I liked that the author explained that raising money this way is not just a quick easy scam, but takes time, commitment and work. The book provides information on what kinds of fund raising projects are suited for Kickstarter and which are prohibited.

The book then provides guidance on choosing how much to attempt to raise, (with Kickstarter if you don't raise the amount you are attempting to raise, you don't get any of it) how to determine rewards for different pledge amounts, how long of a campaign to run, making a Kickstarter promotional video, building and launching your project, creating buzz about it, other important considerations.

I liked that the book discusses that you will want to go to friends and family and let them know about your fund raising project and encourage them to help. So,even though strangers do give money to projects, this isn't that different from traditional fund raising throughout the ages when people have asked friends and family to help get projects going.

This small but comprehensive manual provides a detailed look at raising funds at Kickstarter. Kickstarter is a crowdfunding site for the creativey inclined. The author does a nice job describing the site, its functions and limitations. He guides the reader through the steps necessary to make a campaign a success. Interspersed are assorted interviews with particpants including backers. The analyses of campaigns that failed were as useful as those of successful campaigns. Also included are alternate crowdfunding sites.

I enjoyed this book. It is highly readable and user friendly. In this troubled economy it is great to see alternatives to funding. This book provides inspiration and guidance to the creative and determined.

Get ready to take notes! The Kickstarter Handbook is, as the subtitle suggests, full of profiles of successful Kickstarter projects and their creators. It also features interviews with journalists and bloggers -- including one who has backed more than 80 projects. They offer insight on what makes a Kickstarter project newsworthy and attractive to potential backers. The section on videos is particularly useful, as it compares a handful of successful videos, giving information on content as well as length, and even providing a still from each video to give a better idea of what techniques grabbed the audience's attention. There are guides and examples to help you calculate how much money you will need in order to follow through with both your project and your rewards. There are also cautionary tales and interviews with folks who got their projects funded only to find themselves losing money.
There are a lot of decisions to make when you're putting together a Kickstarter project, and this book will definitely give you a better sense of what choices are and aren't conducive to success.
