perhaps the greatest live performer in rock and roll history...john lennon at a jerry lee show in los angeles in the 70's got down on his knees and kissed jerry lees cowboy boots!! the star club gig is the hilite but the other live material is great also. nice booklet also included.

a note on my order: originally came with disc 2 having a deep scratch. the shrink wrap was half wrapped as perhaps it had been opened and returned? well amazon sent me a replacement quickly. this set was fully shrink wrapped and all discs are ok.

Maybe the best live album in my vinyl collection is one by Jerry Lee Lewis, "The Greatest Live Show on Earth," recorded back in the Sixties in Birmingham, Alabama. I've played that album to a room full of deadbeats and seen them leap to their feet and start dancing. But it was a limited recording and never came out on tape or cd. My old record is worn and scratched and I can't really listen to it anymore. I despaired of ever hearing those tracks again. Well, they're on this compilation! "Jenny Jenny," and "Memphis," for example, are total show stoppers. Jerry Lee's syncopated piano on "Memphis" is absolutely astounding and the audience starts screaming for joy. He plays to the audience and just gets better and better and better. But, this entire compilation is wonderful, filled with tracks never heard by me until now. Nobody can pump up a crowd like Jerry Lee Lewis! You'd have to be strapped down not to react, the energy level here is so high. I'd give this compilation 10 stars if I could, that's how great it is.

I love this box set! What roudy performances by the Killer as no one else can do them! I have loved Jerry Lee since 13 and his country music songs are the best, but of course, you can't go wrong with his rockin' side! Love the Killer! There is a whole lotta shakin' with this box set!

The Star Club show is legendary for good reason. Jerry Lee is screaming the songs, literally raving, virtually speaking in tongues, as he tears through a set of rock and roll classics. The pickup band he plays with is hanging on for dear life, which only adds to the propulsive energy of the show. This set has the best version of Mean Woman Blues I've ever heard, and Whole Lotta Shakin' rocks so hard it could have brought down the Berlin Wall. The two other shows included in the box are terrific too, but the all-time winner is the Star Club show.
