Note: Unfortunately, this set did not receive an official DVD release available in stores. This offer is for MOD (manufacture-on-demand) only and the three disc set will be pressed onto DVD-R media when you order it. There are no Special Features for this reason.

When Season One of "The Killing" premiered on AMC, it was an instant critical darling. An adaptation of a successful Danish television series, it was an intense and quiet show with a slow build drama that got under your skin. Those eager for easy answers and constant action might have needed to look elsewhere because the pace of "The Killing" was more akin to the unraveling of a fine novel than to that of a breakneck thriller. In the premiere episode, a young girl named Rosie Larsen was found murdered. Each episode represented one day following three distinct story threads. We saw the investigation progress, we examined the painful aftermath on the girl's family and friends, and we reflected on how the murder might be tied to local politicians and bigwigs. But despite its critical praise, which included six EMMY nominations (including Lead Actress Mireille Enos and Supporting Actress Michelle Forbes), the first season ended on a note of controversy. Fans felt betrayed that all of the answers into the mystery were not revealed and their vitriol was quite vocal! (Strangely enough, the show was canceled and then uncanceled and Season Three is on its way to TV).

Season Two, consisting of another 13 episodes, picks up directly where the first season concluded. Enos and her partner (an invaluable Joel Kinnaman) are now at odds after the season finale revelations. If anything, though, she is even more obsessed with finding the truth.

I'll make an exception over the release of the 2nd season of Killing..I enjoyed season 1 very much and was eagerly awaiting season 2 and wondering why it wasn't being released. Just a few mintes ago I was ready to buy the finally release season 2 when I realized it was a dvd-r with no sdh/english subtitles. The season one had them of course so I naturally assumed season 2 would also never suspecting an AMC/Amazon dvd-r collaboration that showed no regards for people that purchased season 1. This is uncalled for and shows no respect for people who need sdh-and yes I am still very ticked off even after venting. Shame on all involved in this.

I ordered this before other reviews were posted about the lack of subtitles/closed captioning...I am hearing impaired and cannot watch without captioning. I thought it was a law that everything had to have closed captioning nowadays...what a disappointment as I really like this show and was waiting anxiously for Season Two to be available on DVD.

1.0 out of 5 stars Low Quality May 24, 2013

Let me first preface this review with the fact that the one star is NOT for the show itself. "The Killing" remains to my mind one of the finest scripted dramas ever to grace TV screens. I was saddened when AMC announced last year that the series had been cancelled, but the last episode of the second season provided a wonderful closure to the story and the characters. If ever people want to see what a series finale looks and feels like, then take a look at "What I Know" the last episode of the second season. People complained about the show being too slow, about not having enough action, ending the first season with a cliffhanger and a thousand others...most of them coming from people with the IQ and attention span of a dust mite...I am really glad that AMC reconsidered and decided to give this wonderful series a new lease on life. I hope that the show has a good run, but even if it is just for this one season, I will be satisfied with just having the chance to delve into the riveting world of "The Killing" once again.

The one star rating is for the DVD set itself. I did not expect it to be a DVD-R set. I should have though since no other retailer carried this product. The DVD quality is decent, but not as good as it could be, since these are not original DVDs. The packaging is cheap and looks like it was made by somebody who sells illegal DVD's in Time Square. Actually that is the whole design and feel of this product, when I look at it I have to remind myself that I purchased it legally and not on some street corner from some guy whose display consists of a blanket on the sidewalk filled with really cheap looking product. The menus are static and not animated, there are no extras to the set..etc, etc, etc.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst DVD Product of All Time! April 19, 2013
I ordered this knowing that it was in a DVD-R format, but hoping that it would still be a decent quality picture. The discs I received were all scratched up and damaged! The quality control on this product must be non-existent. How did something like this even get out of the manuafacturer's hands?! You would think with the money they are supposedly saving by not using traditional DVD manufacturing, that they could have hired some decent QC people! Incompetence of the highest order!

1.0 out of 5 stars No subtitles. No special features. April 10, 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I LOVE THE KILLING. Let me say that first. However I purchased the first two seasons on dvd because Netflix did not offer subtitles and I am hearing impaired. Season pne had great captions/subtitles. Season two has none. No special features at all. Just the episodes. The ONLY reason I purchased the dvds was for subtitles. My god, dont almost all dvds nowadays have that feature?!! Im so angry about this. Its cheap packaging and zero features. What a joke. >:(
