5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!
This book was great! I couldn't put it down! I got so involved in the characters that I couldn't wait to see what happened to them next. I can honestly say I went through all the emotions reading this book... laughing, crying, anger, excitement! I hope you write a follow-up to this book! I would love to see how the main characters evolve and how their lives change as time...

2.0 out of 5 stars Just okay
The story line is interesting and at times engaging but the book has such an amateur style of writing it is difficult to fully enjoy or even relate to the characters or their situations. I had to stop reading after the first few chapters.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Emotionally-Charge Experience!, July 25, 2010
When I started reading The Kindness of Strangers, I found myself reading a chapter at a time during short breaks; by the sixth chapter, I was completely absorbed and ultimately finished the second half in one sitting.

Despite a lack of attentiveness to grammatical conventions, this book envelops the reader's mind in the dark, unfathomable world of an abused teenager. While I must admit that grammatical errors and the occasional hackneyed phrase initially took away from the reading experience, the raw and tangible emotion of the work obscures and overwhelms these potential flaws, allowing for the morbid, perhaps initially surreal setting to take on more realistic qualities. Although unlike the typical human experience, the characters and their interactions create a strong connection to the everyday man and woman. Their attempts to overcome adversity and survive provide an understanding of the complex world of those unfortunate individuals that slip through the cracks of humanity's moral and societal values and give each reader ample material to question their own values. I strongly recommend this work to all readers and hope they enjoy this work as much as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, June 14, 2010

As a person that generally reads mostly non fiction/memoirs, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book! It pulls you in right from the start. With such great character development, it allows you to create a strong bond with the few main people in the story. Using such discriptive language, J.A. Titus was able to paint a, sometimes beautiful, sometimes terrifying, picture for the reader. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a quick, yet intense, read!

5.0 out of 5 stars wow, January 11, 2012
This review is from: The Kindness of Strangers (Kindle Edition)
I think this is the only book I have ever read that I actually cried reading. lol It was a emotional roller coaster up and down. I felt like I was there the way the author was able to describe things and while that is a good thing, It's hard when such bad things are happening. (If that makes sense) lol This book is definitely fiction though I found my self saying that would never happen in real life. I mean if you can find a man who says they were attracted to you from the first sight and the first sight was right after you have been raped and your beaten and bloody make sure you keep him. lol No but seriously I loved this book and it was sad but had a GREAT ENDING!!!!

Get your box of tissues, you're going to need it as you follow this emotional tale. It touched me in a deep place, and I found a lot about Sydney that I could relate to. A wonderful tale and hopefully a guide to victims out there that there is life after the violence. :D

Despite wanting to feel sorry for Sydney, you can't help but admire her ability to overcome all the negative circumstances in her life. Sometimes strangers do make the best family. The characters in this book are believable and relatable. Only wish Sydney was a little vindictive when it came to her father. I completely enjoyed this book and put it on my would read again list.

Well I just finished your book The Kindness of Strangers and absolutely loved it. You know books are great when you cant put them down and you laugh and tear up when reading it and this one does. It really hit home and is definately a story for those who have gone through some of the same stuff and even great for those that have not. It's full of hope, positive thinking and strength something everyone needs in life. The details in this book put you right there as though you are in the room watching everything first hand. I highly recommend this book.

Very well written. The author paints a vivid picture of the frightening world experienced by the children of alcoholics (but seldom talked about), and yet leaves the reader feeling hopeful that with the kindness and help of strangers, one can escape a life of desperation. I can't wait to read more books by this author.
