Product Description

Sons of Perdition play psalms for the spiritually dead. Running wide-eyed through the dusty attics of regional American music, spinning tales of sorrow, madness, revenge and soul-gnashing woe, the Sons were spat forth from the mouth of an angry God. Listen and repent. The brooding child of Zebulon Whatley (of the undecayed Whatley s, Scrougout clan), Sons of Perdition are probably haunting a church or tent revival near you. Pass the arsenic and hand over that serpent, brother.

Review

Satan is among us tonight, friends! In this world and these times of darkness, who shall save us from ultimate damnation? Well, Zebulon Whatley seems pretty determined to try his best. Whatley is the mastermind behind the gothic-western folk outfit The Sons of Perdition, and he has just delivered their debut album The Kingdom Is On Fire to the world. Appropriately released on Easter Sunday, it does not take listeners long to realize that even though the album tells several tales of the End Times, this is no ordinary contemporary Christian record. No rainbows here - just pure final judgment, in all its hellish glory. --Hank in Chains

It grieves me that no one's bothered to write a review for this disk, so I figured I would. I normally don't like country at all, but I've recently found out about this whole Gothic Country/Americana thing, which combines roots type music with a darker southern gothic, Poe type feel. A very cool genre indeed. Anyway this album is great. Christianity at it fire and brimstone, "Sinners In The Hands of an Angry God" best. If you like Those Poor Bastards, 16 Horsepower/Wovenhand then you'll probably love it, even if it does have a little more "twang" then those bands. Great up-tempo tracks like the title track to slower and creepier almost hymn like dirges "Blood In The Valley." This is western sounding music at its bloody, revenge and dust filled best. And some "preaching" by Brother Lonesome Wyatt which is rather funny "F*** you Satan!" Great little disk so buy it or burn ye pitiful sinner!

A very fresh take on the end times (fresh may not be the best word there). But if you are a fan of the macabre, or a disappointed Baptist then this is for you.
